So i have a TRX500FM and the problem it is refusing to start.

I have already cleaned the carburettor out, i have also checked the mechanical timing, valve clearances are perfect and it has spark.

It was smoking out of the airbox when i was turning it over but it obviously failed to start. The fuel is fresh and the quad was running perfectly fine the previous day until it cut out and has refused to start ever since.

Is there anyone that could be of any assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.

There is a kill switch on it but quad will not turn over unless it is at the on position, so can rule that out. The spark plus is a brownish color, have not tried a new one but it has ran through my head multiple times. Only thing i can do is try a new plug tomorrow as the quad is in storage and i am at home now.

You can also check all the connections to the kill switch and key switch too
make sure they're connected
All connections have been checked prior to me checking the timing.

I have heard that sometimes the pump fuel can be dirty sometimes and instead of firing like it should, it just fouls the plug due to the plug being a bit old or just a cheap one. Not saying that is the problem.

If it has a strong blue spark, I'd say start chasing down the fuel system. When you say you cleaned the carb, did you rebuild it with a kit? or just clean out some gunk? I always recommend a rebuild because they are relatively cheap ($30 shipped to my door off of amazon). Also, anytime you rebuild or clean a carb, its a good idea to set it back to factory specs so that you know it'll run right.

Since you said it ran one day and not the next, that to me kinda says something went
have you checked all your fuses?
gas shouldn't go bad over night
but you can surely drain it all, and start with new gas
can also check out your CDI connection, too

Your comment about it smoking out of the air box makes me think it's timing related......

My 07 did the same thing ran great shut it off next day wouldn't start . It turned out to be a broken intake valve .
