About to change my oil in my Rubicon and i am thinking about going to Rotella T6 Synthetic...

Im figuring this will work but just making sure... i have had zero problems (knock on wood) out of my tranny since i have bought it new back in 2005... and have always used the same oil... this will be the first switch to the rotella stuff...

well i got the Rotella T6 today...going to change it out tommorow and going on our annual south ar ride next weekend...going to see if it makes a difference...jeep put this stuff in a buddy of ours rincon and he said it really improved the performance of the rinny...

The T6 was $19.xx/gallon at Wallyworld today. The regular Rotella is about $13.

The 15W40 is a little thick when it's cold. After putting the T6 in that Rincon I noticed it was quieter, fan doesn't come on as much, and shifted a lot better.

I'm usually a big fan of regular dino oil given the big markup on synthetics, but for $20/gallon for the T6, and given that my FM's only take 2.5 quarts per oil change, I'm going to switch over on my next change.

I hear ya about not wanting to change the oil in your rubicon.. ive been using the same (type n brand) of oil the dealer put in it since new. Im to poor to buy a new hondamatic if i mess it up.. lol.
Toodeep has shown pics of rubicons with 50,000 miles on them using dino oil so i think il stay but you maybe fine.. let us know what you think if you change.

I been useing regular rotella 15w 40 since I Bought my bike 2 two years ago. It's been sunk 6 times and only had to have to wrist pin and rings changed once. I never let the oil turn black and change it frequently.

Recently had gear reduction put on my bike. My buddy who did it told me the inside my motor was very clean.

One oil change ago I began to add 20% lucas heavy duty additive. I did notice the bike fan not turn on as much. Keep in mine I do run thru mud parks and do long distance trail riding.
I wouldn't use anything else but rotella.

use a good JASO-MA dino or syn oil and thats it .....the rating of JASO-MA (or better ) is approved for wet clutch systems ....adding the additive will make the clutches slip and glaze over .....it's not needed and will do more harm then good in the long run

why do people think they are smarter then the fukin engineers that design these things .....LMFBO !!!!
i work on these things for a living and have seen what happens when you run oil that isn't designed for a wet clutch oiling system .....but fuk man its your wheeler and you can do what you want but don't give people the wrong advice on this forum .....please

I'm with rich on this. We went through this on both of our foremans when we put STP in the oil, and my clutch is slipping right now due to using Lucas break in additive. It's honestly best to just run oil if you want the best performance you can have, my $.02

We had used STP as well and it made our clutches slip. My point was that we have found that additives usually do good, but make our clutches slip usually. Honestly, we ride balls to the wall, and we notice it in higher gears. Unless you ride hard you may not ever notice that it slips a little

Good luck with it then, you've had better luck than me

Don't know whether oil additive is a good thing or bad thing, but wouldn't switching to Rotella T6 instead of the regular Rotella give you the same result, for the same price, and then you KNOW it's JASO MA rated and there would be no chance of it messing up your clutches? Just a thought.

Ran it for three days straight. In heavy thick mud. Really cudnt tell a difference but it did run well. I did notice the engine didn't overheat when I forgot to clean out the radiatior. But it was wet big time and cooler out. Guess I will have to wait till summer to find out if it will over Heat faster or slower.

So I just bought Rotella T-6 full synthetic (blue 5gallon bottle) for $22 for my 05 Honda rubicon trx 500fa. Been wanting to switch from the expensive gn4 oil at $42 for the oil. I see on the back of the bottle it’s Jaso ma approved. Anyone had problems with it? I know this forum is old but guess can’t hurt to ask

Couldn’t find it in a 10w. So I put the 5w-40 in it. Hope that’s ok.

I’ve been running T6 in my 08 & 15 hondas with good results. Are you sure that wasn’t a 2.5gal jug for $22?

You guys are probably tired of hearing my questions by now but I’ve got another one. My machine is the 05 Honda rubicon fourtrax foreman. It’s always had a sort of a small rattle noise in the motor area. I’ve been told it’s a normal tranny noise in these machines and it’s when it’s ilding. It shifts perfect ect. I know some of these Honda’s have a adjustment nut on the outside of the trans but mine doesn’t and there’s nothing in Manual about a clutch adjustment.
