Harbor freight also has a 3000 lb winch that comes with a mechanical brake, but not sure I want to subject my ES to that much current draw over and over and over when plowing. 20 amps. Promark has a 1500 winch that has the brake, but not sure if 14fpm is quick enough.

the line only moves 1 or 2 ft with the plow anyways. i used a POS 2000lb superwinch last year plowing and you know how much snow we had last year , and i worked it every snow storn!!!!!!

my superwinch has been on my quad since new and it works perfect still. iv never had any issues with it other then having to change the cable once. cabelas sometimes has a superwinch 2000 lb on sale for 100 bucks comes with everything but mounting plate. now they have it for 80.00 bucks on sale Cabela's: Superwinch LT2000 ATV Winch

Yeah, 14 fpm = 2.8" a second, that's 4 seconds to lift the the plow a foot... seems like that might feel like a century after a while. Granted you don't have to lift it the full way up every time if you're just backing up a little to pull forward again. I think those ratings are for the first layer though, with a full spool I imagine the speed would be quite a bit faster unless I'm confused.

That one says on the manufacturer site " Note, this winch does not have a brake and is not recommended for ATV snow plow applications"

hay scott im not saying that superwinch is a bad brand just that the one i had sucked balls lol. thats why i bought that warn off of craigs list (mayo) for $100 ! and it was ahuge upgrade man

imo dont use the winch for plowing snow. its hard on winches, batteries, stators, cables, and the electrical wires. u name it, its hard on it.
i've always used my hand operated lever and i think its easier/faster and makes stuff last longer. i plowed all winter commercially cause i was outta work and had zero problems

im not sure where you found that but i cant find it anywhere on the mf site

I've been lifting this big heavy 55" moose plow for the past 4 years, and I'm getting sick of it. Plus being able to partially lift the plow will certainly come in handy from time to time when pushing back snowbanks late in the winter.

yeah you did go to ATV then go to LT winches. your in utility winches on there site Superwinch, LLC - LT Winch * All-Purpose Winch
Yeah, I think they're the same winch, one just comes set up for a wheeler. Regardless I believe you it works, I am just resigned to getting a mechanical brake to be safe at this point. Superwinch does make a 2500 with brake I will look into.

that makes sense. i got a cycle country that is probably a little lighter and has a different leverage point to it. i used my winch on the foreman for clearing sage brush and building road with it. works great for that.

yeah i have the older 1500lb winch and it will lift the front of my atv up iv had almost the whole atv up a tree and it held it just fine so a 100 lb little plow should be no prob for any winch. honestly id invest in a plow for my truck be for id freeze my balls off on my atv lol

I've had my front suspension about bottom out before lifting my plow with heavy wet snow stuck to it, using the HL springs also. I've plowed both ways and will never go back to manual lift. Driving around town my blade will still settle a little with the winch, I usually use a tie down if I'm going very far to hold it up. I also don't travel the recommended slow speeds though... I use to move snow for a side business so I was all over town with the 4 wheeler clearing sidewalks before getting into the loader.

I did like my OLD cyclecountry manual lift though, before all the safety stuff. With the rod set up I could push on the lever with my foot and have some good down pressure on the blade.

**** no not with all the snow we get !! My left shoulder is shot ! I love my warn !!!

You know what I ended up going with the Superwinch LT3000. $122 shipped from amazon. It has the mechanical brake, fast line speed, and only 15 amp current draw. Venom gave me their specs, and teh speed was good but it was drawing TWICE the current that the superwinch does. Between shifting and running the lights, I don't need that extra draw. Plus superwinch comes with a 2 year mechanical warranty and apparently has good CS. Seemed like the best bet as far as the cheap winches go. Thanks for all the advice!
