As much as I like the Foreman I have to think SOMEBODY has switched the thumb throttle for a twist grip Throttle from a bike.
On long rides it would be a lifesaver... and a thumbsaver.

Any guidance here??

thats a very bad idea on a atv . imagin you are going up a hill and you start to slide back on the seat what is that right hand going to do ......yup its going to roll more gas and it can turn into a **** storm quick

I agree! I saw the twist grip throttle on Cabelas' website and was thinking the exact same thing. I ride dirt bikes and street bikes too, but they're different than ATVs, and in my opinion the thumb controlled throttle is a better/safer option for some of the terrain that you could encounter on an ATV that you wouldn't normally attempt on a bike. Ascending a hill that is a creek bed with very large rocks would be a good example of this.

i had one on my 2000 recon es. there are companies that make them. i absolutely loved the twist throttle on my little recon

Thats why when I discovered beer I went to a four wheeler (had a three wheeler).

I was going to switch mine over when I first bought it cause Ive been on bikes my whole life. After getting into some technical hill climbs and rock crawls I decided against it. Ive gotten used to it now but like toodeep said that twist grip that works with the thumb throttle would be a good idea.

Im with rich on this. You could do it and it would be great for long rides but tricky terrain and hills id stick with the lever throttle

yea for sure think about it with the thumb lever you still have total control of the handlebar and a strong grip, if you had the twist grip you would have to let your whole hand relax for a second and that could be all the difference

I flipped the throttle over to a left hand index finger on a ATC back in the late 70's it worked great, but as these other guys say riding tactical on a incline got me in trouble many a time! although it worked good for long easy rides & doing doughnuts

I had cut off my right hand thumb off, but they was able to save it...so I got bored of waiting on it to mend & needed something to ride! (Grin)

Each of you make good points from a personal perspective. Here's mine:
I've flat tracked, hill climbed, and rock crawled scree slopes and boulder fields on enduro bikes and encountered all the events mentioned above, and never experienced an inadvertent throttle roll.. You grip it with your whole hand, you know? If your fingers are crooked it just ain't gonna roll itself. I'd think fine throttle control would be enhanced considerably. To me the thumb throttle just seems too be an unecessary and very physically limiting design factor.
After 45 years living with twist throttles under all kinds of crazy conditions, they just seems natural an natural extension of my arm.
I'll try it..and can always go back.
Thanks for your perspectives.

If you feel comfortable with it....do it. Ive rode bikes for 20 + years and the thumb throttle was a new world that I didnt like at all. After riding with it for a while I just got used to it. It doesnt matter to me now I could go twist or thumb.

A buddy of mine racer MX for about 30 years on quads. Once he got tired of them he started riding bike..... converted his mini and his crf 450 over to a thumb throttle! Now that was weird haha!

I ran a twist on my banshee when we did flat track, but that thing was WOT from start to finish, put on on a rancher we had so my mom and grandfather could ride it,we never had a issue, motion pro makes a whole kit to swap over.

A CRF 450, thats insane. I had a KTM 525 SX, theres no way I would have tried that.

Does he race it?

That would be different for sure h22 but I agree, to each his own. Maybe I should get a twist for my 500 just to see what its like lol. Can always switch it back, I dont think they are all that expensive.

Rich took the words right out of my mouth! or hands! lol
This is especially true on a 4-Trax 250r with a 2 stroke motor, but on these pokier 4 stroke utility models it might not be so bad?
Im a thumb throttle guy myself and even installed one on a CR 250r at one time and loved it because it allows you to really grip down on the right side handlebar and throttle only when you need it and is really nice when track riding and going thru the whoop da doos.
Me and my buddies use to do the thumb throttle motion with our hands when we would refer to going riding!lol

I have switched a 350ES to twist throttle. For somebody with the same idea's as you have. Then switched it back a year later because they couldn't stand it. It only cost about $40-50 and was a fairly easy swap. I say go for it, if/when you don't like it just switch it back. No harm no foul, right?

Motion Pro makes these kits, I don't think they have one for the EFI's YET though.

I always thought it would be cool
