Hi,

I'm working on my 2001 or 2002 Foreman 450 ES 4x4. I was cleaning up the wiring harness and came across a plug that wasn't conneted to anything. I've attached pictures of the actual plug in question as well as a 2001 wiring diagram pic. the part of the plug that comes out of the main harness has two wires, one green and one red. the plug that was inserted into it (but not connected to anything) has two wires, one appears to be yellow with a red tracer and the other appears white with a black tracer.

My friend told me that the plug goes to the seventh fetzer valve but I couldn't find any info on that .

Any help would be appreciated.

First, thanks for the diagram.

Prior to touching anything, yes, the reverse light in the console came on. The red wire was not crimped (if I understand what you mean). The two wires that arent connected to anything may have been twisted together but unfortunantly I didn't really pay attention to it at first. As far as the cooling fan, I know the motor is good as I had put 12V and a ground directly to it (at the plug near the left front of the frame). I haven't run the bike up to temp to see if it will actually come on by the thermostat.

The other thing I noticed was in the diagram you sent me, it doesn't show the little single light blue wire that comes out the harness with the other three pulgs, or at least I don't see it. You can see it in my pics. If I can find the wiring diagram for the 2002 and the 2001, I'd be curious to see if the wires are red and green on one of the two. I'm not sure what year the wiring diagram you sent me but if you have the other year (2001 vs. 2002) I greatly appreciate a copy. I haven't had much luck finding the diagrams.

The bike is disassembled right now but I intend to check continuity from the plug in question to the cooling fan motor circuit closer to the front of the bike and to the reverse circuit. While trying to track the plug down, I came across a Honda wire color identification chart. It listed RED and 12V and GREEN as a GROUND. I have verified the green wire does go to ground.

Again, thanks for your help and I'll update after I check those circuits.

Great info Dale.

I'm a newbie so don't laugh (too loud). If the shift contol motor is diconnected, what happens? I'm assuming the shift control motor is the one on the lower left of the front cover that changes the gears when the up or down buttons on the shift switch are pressed. I did drive the bike before I started working on it and shifted using the shift switch on the handlebars. Hmmm?

You mentioned when this goes bad, some people just disconnect it and run without it. Do they have to install a foot shift lever and shift it manually? Also, it is very possible the bike is a 2002. I found an copy of the service manual online and it shows a different wiring digram for the 2001 vs. 2002 but the resolution was so bad, i could't make out any wire colors as the letters were so small (the diagram was in black and white).

I'm trying to learn and I'm having fun. Thanks for your continued help and if you come across a wiring diagram for an '02 Foreman 450 ES in color, I'd sure like to look at it.

Take care,

TW

Thanks to everyone for the help. I now believe that the plug in question was for the carb heater. When I pulled the carb to rebuild it, I found two wires dangling from the bottom of it. The wires from the carb heater matched the color of the wires that were cut at the plug. I could be wrong but everything else, the shift control motor, cooling fan and speedo all work.

Thanks again,
