Aftermarket Shocks

I’ve been resurrecting a 04 450 that has had a demanding life, and have been considering upgrading the suspension. It currently has stock shocks with a high lifter 2 in lift. I’m most likely going to go with progressive 512’s. I know you cannot run them with the lift kit, but do not want to lose any clearance or ride height I currently have. It is my understanding that the Foreman 500 shocks are 1 inch to 1.5 inches taller eye to eye. Would I be able to order Foreman 500 512’s and run them on all four corners? In theory the increased length of the 512’s over factory along with the increased length of the 500 shocks should keep me close to where I am now. Anyone have any experience with 500 shocks on a 450? Am I way off base with wishful thinking? Any input is appreciated.

I've got a Perfex kit on my 04 Foreman and i'm runnning the Progressive 512's made for that machine and have had no issues with them. This is on the front, i'll be swapping out the rear shocks before next spring rolls around.

the progressive 512 shocks are 1in longer then stock shocks (foreman 450) and dont listen about not running them shocks with a lift ........i did it for 2 years and never broke any suspention or driveline parts ....thats how i ran 30in silverbacks and then 29.5 swamplites

Sweet thanks for the responses guys. I wasn’t sure how much truth there was to their recommendation. I have had trouble in the past splitting boots while running HL springs and their lift due to the shafts riding on the cv cups. May have been due to the generic oem replacement axles I was running. May have to look into getting my hands on some 500 cups.

Rich, did you run the perfex lift or another one such as HL's? I remember seeing a picture of your old bike on another thread. It was in a trailer maybe, next to a stock 450, and was stupid tall. Just wondering your setup at the time.

Never mind Rich. Work wouldn't let me see the pictures. Opened it on my phone and saw the HL front bracket. Thanks.

i had the SSATV 2in lift (not the HL kit) but about the same
i think this is the picture i belive you are thinking of (my 450 on 30in tires tied down next to a foreman 400 with 25in tires )

That's the one. Makes me smile when I see it.
