I started this thread after i mentioned in another thread i was going to change out my oil in my rubicon with Shell Rotella t6 5w40 oil. It created quite a stir. I've read a few of your comments in my other post, but i'm looking to get more insite into this issue. Is the Rotella safe for the Hondamatic? How many have used it? I don't think it has any harmful additives but i'm not an expert. Please explain if you know. Thanks

i'm sure its safe. ur performance may be noticeably different. imo
yup
Yes! 02 Rubicon, 4500 miles mostly plowing & hunting.
I put in 10W40 Amsoil in mine. A little pricey at $ 10 a quart but i shouldnt have to worry for a very long time. It also changes gears from reverse to Drive alot better since switching.
Its all in your preferance..... I dont actually know of anyone who has done a study on them to compair it to gn4. I know amsoil and rotella do their own studies but it would be nice to see if we could get some other oils such as gn4 to do a test on, ya know.
Im sure it would be fine in most hondas if the specs match what your owners manual says BUT dont forget the same oil running through your motor is also running your VERY $$$ hondamatic... I wouldnt chance it myself and no, i dont use honda oil just the same spec'd oil and i change it every 1000hrs.
100hrs... doh. Or season
Been running Rotella synth in my Rubi since I got it 3 years ago plus been putting it in a lot of other bikes too. Zero problems.
Well I changed the oil out with the rotella synthetic and my initial impression is that it changes between drive low and reverse so much easier. No more blipping the throttle to change gears. I don't know what I had in there for oil before though and it was fairly dirty.

Keep us posted..synthetic oil is superior to regular oil everybody knows that but is the $$ worth it? maybe... but im still sitin on the fence. I like to think my honda motor with fresh oil every 100hrs will out live the rest of the machine. btw i still own one of them 300w 1960 something HONDA generators that im taking on my quad trip tomorrow..it runs a sony stereo and a light.B)

Get out... those things look wild. My buddies dad has one.... we found it in his barn under about 4' of garbage and hay.... put gas in it and the sumbitch started right up...... We took it out in the field to run a metabo to cut a Dana44 out from under a an old comanche haha.
in the footwell of my 06 rubi..:lol:the wet mess under it is from oil change mishap on rubi..dam dog tail hit the funnel when i wasnt watching
The Rotella t6 was actually a fair bit cheaper than the Honda oil because i'm in Canada. Dealer wants almost $10 a litre for it. I paid about $30 for the Rotella. I figure cheaper and better protection. I'll keep you all updated.
Dude, thats the same one!
Some areas Shell rotella safe for 4stokes wet clutch is hard to get....

I went with Amsoil specific for 4 stroke 0 w 40(I live in Canada)...my Foreman shifts better with it...not perfect but a lot better.
I change my engine oil spring and fall with Honda oil. Also change my front and rear diff oil spring of every year.
rotella 5w40 FTW!!!!

found it back when I had a rincon, and most guys loved it over there on rinconriders, my prowler is fine with it, dont run it in my brute, cause I change it alot more regular, it gets ridden ALOT harder than the prowler

I think the rubicon has either rotella 15w40 or mobil 15w40 in it.

the john deere 717a has mobil 15w50 in it, as does the hydro system on it.
