Yet another jet question?

3801 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Railroader
Im planning on purchasing a HMF utility, uni filter, and also a a triangle snorkel and have a couple of questions

What jet to run 135 oem or 138 oem?

What notch to put it on? (I live in central NC if that helps anyone)

Do you only have to replace the main jet or do you have to replace main and pilot jet?

Where can I find good pictures and instructions on how to do this correctly?

Thanks for all the help, i just wanna do this myself, and do not wanna screw anything up.

If this helps, i did Jennifers & mine with the oem 135 & the needle on the lowest
clip setting with a little washer. I don't know exactly what your elevation is,
but that worked great for us. Hope this helps.
I would say we are like 200 to 600 feet above sea level, im not sure. When you say on the last notch you mean the richest setting on needle? Is there a washer already inside there, or did you have to add that? Im just scared i will screw this up and my foreman will never run right again, thanks
Honestly, i don't remember where the washer came from. I don't know if it
was already there or if i got some. As far as the clip on the lowest setting,
put the clip on the groove that closest to the bottom of the needle. It will raise the
needle for more fuel flow. That is what the fella from Triangle ATV (the one's
who make the Snorkit) told me. I did as he instructed & am very pleased
with the outcome.
Anyone else know if the washer was in there?
Yes there is a washer already in there. When you look at the needle, the notch closest to the pointy end is where you want to put the clip. Start with the air/fuel screw out about 2 1/2 turns out from bottom and go from there. When you sit and think about it, it might seem hard to do but it really isnt. The only thing to really warn you about is the srews on the bowl. Be very careful cause they are very soft so make sure you have a screwdriver that fits it good and push like **** so you dont round it out. Good luck.
Good advise. I seem to have bad luck puttin' things in words.
This may sound like a dumb question, Do you have to remove the carb from the bike to jet? I never really seen anyone ask this. If you have to remove it can you leave cables attached or how should i go about this? Thanks
You can just take off a couple hoses and clamps and you can rotate it around without fully removing it from the bike itself.
So at 200 to 600 feet with a HMF utility and triangle snorkle i would run a 135 oem on the setting closest to the tip of the needle, correct or should i go 138? What are soem simple tests i can do to see if i am running rich or lean?
Railroader How many discs are you running in your wifes atv? I just installed a supertrapp ids-x and I put in 8 discs with stock jetting and a uni filter. It seems to run good but I have not had a chance to run it hard yet. I tried to get a 135 jet but none of the dealers near me have one so I might just keep the jetting stock if it runs good. Thanks
Best test to see if your too lean is to drive it and pull the choke out and if it picks up speed then your too lean, if it bogs and cuts out then you should be fine.
