Tapping worked for me too. Starter is only 1 year old. I remembered I had to do this with the motor on an old pontoon boat I bought too. Did that to get the starter to engage the first season and ever since then (10 years) haven't touched it since

Hi everyone.

I have an 2007 Rubicon. Out of the blue the other day it would not start, it would just make a click noise.
First thought the battery was dead, so I charged it.
Same thing, click noise. The noise comes from the battery area and not from the engine area.
All the head lights, and dash lights come on so I don't think it is a power issue, but I could be wrong.

Any ideas??

Thank you very much in advance for your help.
[/QUOTE I have a 2007 honda foreman 500 and had the same problem and I replaced the starter and it started.

Sound you hear is the starter solenoid. You need to check to see if the starter is getting voltage when hitting start button. If it is, then its the starter. If no voltage to starter, its the solenoid.

Wont start makes clicking noise

Hello , New to the forum, Just a quick reply to the question, my 02 did the same thing, so when in doubt use a hammer. Crud may build up inside your starter, so gently tap the starter with the hammer and see if that takes care of the problem, it did for me.
I just did the exact same dance with my 2002 Recon - I had the clicking, replaced the solenoid, more research, then replaced the battery ($ 100) , still just clicking..... Hit the starter with a hammer and she starts every time...

Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to write what you did. Big help my friend!
