not sure cuz i dont have a winch and dont have much experience with them, but i keep reading posts on here about contactors going bad whatever that may be, you might check that
i would take the winch apart but mark it with a scribe so you do not put the motor on backwards so it works right.and pull it apart and look at the motor and see if its fried or not look at the brushes and the armature and the magnots to see sign of ware and look at the gears. if nothing check the silinoid beacouse they will sometimes stick and mess up what you will need to do is take the silionoid off the bike and take the screws holding the thing togater and there will be 2 caps and springs that want to come out after you take it apart clean them up with a erraser of a pensal. and do the same with the upper connection and put a little dioletric greese on the connection and try that thats what i did to my winch and new silnoid after i bougth it from crash that thing kicks a$$ used it sunday and barride my bike and pulled it out like noting.dont mean to be an A$$ or anything, but if your riding with others just break a towstrap or a rope with hooks on it, i bought a 15' rope from walmart that had a hook on each end and has a 1500lb rating on it, nothing super strong but it gets the job done...if you ride with other people thats all you need, 2 people shouldnt ever be stuck in the same hole at the same time, 1 person go through at a time, if 1 gets stuck pull him out and let the next guy try it...all the experiences that ive had with winches werent worth a darn becuz i was so stuck that the bike that was on dry ground that was winching me was being drug into the mud hole that i was in
just my experiences with winches
