Winch installation

A quick question about installing a winch on a Rancher. My wife has an 04 Rancher ES and i'm putting her winch on for her, do i take of the plastic piece off the front so i can mount the roller fairlead? She wants me to put it back on but i don't think it will go on after i put the winch on.
