When do you use 4wd?

Do you routinely use 4wd or seldom on your Foreman 500? Under what circumstances have you had to go to 4wd? I have a new Foreman (my first ATV) and wanted to get an idea of how capable 2wd is and under what conditions I should be thinking ahead about 4wd before I get in a situation where I am wishing I had put it in 4wd. From what I have read, it sounds like 2wd is usually enough except when it gets real bad. Thanks.

just use it when you need it.......if you get stuck just throw it in 4wd and let er eat
I use it daily!!! I guess I wouldn't ride in the bad stuff if I only had 2wd. With 4wd, lift kit and a winch..... I'm going in!!!!!! It makes a world of difference even with factory tires, but those will wear fast.. I've had my '06 8 months and wore out the factory tires in six months especially those garbage front tires. It's also great on rides when you come up on some who's got their 2wd stuck nose down in a mud hole!!!
Thanks for the replies. Sounds like having 4wd is good insurance!
I use it when i need it usually
I use it rarely, mostly when things get sticky. Your bike can do pretty much anything else in 2wd. I try to stay out of 4wd for dirt road cruising at higher speeds, you really don't need it. Keep in mind that it kicks in pretty instantly, you won't need to wait for any mechanical engagements to occur. On the opposite, you'll notice that if you're driving down hill or are putting the tranny under load, 4wd won't disengage immediately.
Mine's always in 4x4,I've been stuck in 2wd and at that point 4x4 doesn't help much.Once in a while when on hard roads I'll switch to 2x4.
I use it when I am tryig to straddle a deep rut and do not want my back tires to slide in by spinning...I also use it to pull my Frind buckshot out of those cookie dough mud holes...

At least I try to go thru some of the cookie dough holes and not back out
Thanks for all your replies. I need to get my new Foreman out and try it out.
using 4x4

Hello, I use 4x4 when I see a mud hole that looks a little deep or thick. I also use it for steep up and down hills, it helps with engine braking when going down steep hill. My husband usually rides first in line so I judge by how he is doing. Otherwise I am in 2 wheel drive, saves on gas.web site mirandah.fotopic.net Mostly Yamahas, I ride yellow 450ES.
i did good on a recon with no tread on the tires. i know its 200 pounds lighter than foreman but it also has half the power. i think going in 2wd would be no problem.
i would say if you are not gonna be hauling ass in 4 wheel you'll be ok. it's definetly good to have and i use mine on and off all day long. i wouldn't leave it locked in all the time. Whats the point anyway when it's so easy to disengage.
just keep in it 2wd and give it ****. then when it gets deep go to 4wd... im always in 2wd tell i get stuck. then 4wd i might get out or i just bury it to the pipe like i did 2 weeks ago..
yep same here. half the time i'm tryin to get stuck but usually doesnt work.
ya i thought the same thing i was in 2wd then got stuck put in 4wd to let er it. and guess wat bried. stripped winch later and a tractor and rubicon bried. it took a rhino with a 4.0 winch to get me and rubicon out. then we all got on to the tractor to get it out..

How is that gay?
I love seeing pictures of Foremans being used and abused..... Fun to see where people take them, It reasures me that I am not the only one that tries the impossible.
