You did most of the things you should have done. You should also have changed the oil ASAP (milky engine oil -> water got into it) and let the engine run until it heated up, then changed the oil once again, but it sounds like you'll be able to do that tonight.

Sometimes you need to use compressed air to help dry the electrical connections out as well.

Between the heat from the running engine and the fresh oil any remaining water should either evaporate or be displaced, changing the oil a 2nd time removes the water displaced by and now mixed with the oil.
