I am looking to buy a winch this week..I cant help you out on this one...But will be watching this site for answers..
I have the 2500 Venom Winch on my Foreman 500 and it works great. I have only had 1 problem out if it, put it was my fault, let too much cable wrap up on one side. I have used it alot and no complaints, had to pull a buddies Honda450R up out of a steep hill with a ditch at the bottom, had to wedge mine against a tree and pull him up the hill about 50'. I have had it under water about 15 times and no problems yet. I would recommend them to anyone, but I would recommend the 3000# winch, just for the little extra power.
I found the Venom 2500 on ebay for $129.00. I was about to order it this morning. I have a 650 Rincon...Should I get the 3000 lb or would the 2500 lb sufice?
i have a warn 2500 and it works great. but if the price isnt to bad i would go with the 3000 for the lil extra power
My thoughts too...I am not sure what is enough...and what will get me by. I want a winch that will definately pull.. but not something that is an over kill. Is a 3000 enough for pulling the weight of a 500 out of deep mud ( Im not knockig 500's.. Its just that is what Mama has ).
Bigger is always better
My 2500 Venom does pull good, but I wish I would have got the 3000#. Like I said just for the little extra power. With mine I can get it to bog if I dont give it some gas to help it along.
3000 lb IT IS...Thanx guys..
Well.. The parts came in one day after ordered. The new Aluminum Products for the front end are installed and awaiting me to get off of my wallet to get ( The Winch ). Here are some pics..
from what i have heard the rule of thumb is the rating of the winch should be 3x the weight of your quad....
I have a 3500x Venom on my Rubi.

Only used it a couple times, but once was to pull a Ford Probe out of a rut.

The Freespool knob broke, but after emailing Venom, they had the parts on the way to me the next day.

For the money, I think they are definately worth it.
Mine was HALF the price a WARN winch would have been.

just remember folks, the rating ( pulling strength 3000# or 2500#) is just for the 1st layer of cable on the spool, as each layer comes of pulling strength decreases significantly, best thing to do is get a pulley (snatch block) and loop the cable back to the pulling ATV
Never thought of that...Would this be a good set up to have on hand in the swamp? From what I can understand, you are saying to pull the wench out..loop it thru a snatch block ( pully ) and back to the bike. And have a rope or another strap to hook to the bike and hook this to the stuck bike? I hope that came out right..

That sounds correct to me.

I plan to get a snatch block to carry also, that will DOUBLE the pulling power.

Although, I have yet to find a situation where my Venom 3500x would not pull it.
But that would still be much less stress on the winch.
