OK, Im able to recreate this popping sound at will now.
In first gear, hold the front and rear brake and give it gas about 1/4 throttle I get a loud pop that seems to be coming from where my foot shifter is. I was not able to get it to do this in 2nd gear, the brakes couldnt hold the bike much in 2nd.
I dont really notice the revs dropping but then again instinct kicks in and I get off the gas when it pops.
Could this be a bad gear??? I can drive around and it acts fine, but give it a load and it pops.
I took a peek at the ujoint, put it in the air, put it in first gear and gave some gas all looks good there.
Any ideas here????

I worked on one of the old 250ex's one time that had the same problem, it ended up being the dog's on the gears were wore down, but it is crazy to think that this would already happen to you, I would be argueing with honda if I was you.
yea it sounds like damage to the gear
dealership called today, the pulled the motor apart to take a look at the trans, bent shift work which they said took out a few gears as well. All covered by the warranty, luckily. Should have it back next weekend.
I guess I'll have to drive the 60 miles, past about 5 other dealers, for my warranty work. At least thats where I purchased my bike from.
that is good news, sounds lie they are treating you right.
got mine back!! New shift fork, and 2 new gears. They also did the clutch update at the same time. Glad to have it back.
But, it looks like it has sat outside for the past 2 months, and has turned a different shade of yellow, it got really bright and ugly. I am going to call and see what they can do, its looks kinda goofy.
Any idea of how this happened? Just curious, as Honda builds some darn tough machines.

I dont know, could be from droping it in gear, but, I only did that a few times, and Mullets been doing it for years. The guys at the dealership thought it wasnt assembled correctly from the factory so who knows.
Glad to hear your good news, my wife's has changed colors also, it is from sitting outside. Make them get you new plastic, don't they have blue for them now.
