yes. i have done it that way by cutting the fin out
What part is failing? The slide itself or the spring thats inside part #4?

every one i have come across the spring broke in the adjustor, i have fixed the spring on a few and it worked but most of the time i just put on new adjustors to be safe (customer bikes, they look at quality of work more than price)
Can I pull the adjuster out without messing anything up? I want to check the spring.
Thanks,

Thanks,
to just check the spring you can take the header pipe off, use a long philip screwdriver to remove the screw on top of the adjuster and then use a long skinny flat screwdriver to turn the adjuster and you can feel the spring make the adjuster snap back down ( only have to turn it a little to feel the spring

the tank plastic, fuel tank and heat sheild under the tank has to be removed also to do this.
