Have a 99 honda foreman 450ES.My neutral indicator light did not work so i decieded to take the instrument cluster apart to fix it.Well i guess that was a mistake.it being a led bulb and soldered to the circuit board ,by looking at it the only way to repair it is to replace the whole thing at a cost of about $300.00.for the sake of a $2.00 light it will cost probaly $300.00 or better to let you know that your bike is in netural.Any thoughts from any honda owners out there.Very stupid on their behalf.After all they don't be long charging you and arm and leg for replacement parts.With any indicator light you should be able to replace it.I guess they must have been asleep on this one.Very disappointed on this.Who is the brilliant engineer on this one.Should be ashame.Please provide some feedback.Thanks

Ummm.

Are you sure that there is nothing else wrong? Generally LEDs have a lifetime of 100 000hours. That calculates to MANY years. It is not likely that it would just blow all by itself.

If there is nothing else wrong, you can get LEDs from a place called Digikey.ca, they will ship overnight, and I pretty much guarantee that they will have the electronic part that you need.

If you are not much into electronics this may be difficult for you. If that is the case, if you could take a picture of the part (installed on the circuit board) I may be able to help you locate a proper part.

i agree with steve, probably NOT the led, since they seem to last forever in most applications. i would check for continuity in the 1) reverse/neutral switch, 2) gear change switch, 3) shift switch & 4) reverse switch. they are located to the rear of the foot brake on the frame. you will need a shop manual to identify which color terminals correspond to which gear. most likely a problem with the ESP or a switch or connector.

That is not uncommon. Ford does the same think on there cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. When the light goes out you need to replace the whole board. But if you think it is the LED you could take a volt meter and measure and see if there is voltage if there is then look at radio shack they have LED's and then just solder the new one in.

I disagree. My buddy has a 99 foreman that he noticed the neutral light was out. He soldered in a new led and it worked fine. You can get leds ad radio shack

honda did this so ya wouldnt have to fix it often....sure beats putting in new bulbs once a year....
