I havent had my 2011 for three months yet and I'm already regretting buying a SRA bike. I go mudding/deep water and I have trouble following the IRS bikes through the good holes. It is light and does float but after following canams with 31s I tend to end up in bad spots. I do like the low range and push button shift and 4wd but it is underpowered and gets high centered often.
I hate to say it as well, I sometimes regret buying my 06 rubicon last year. It has been super reliable, but i can't keep up to my friends with the Kingquads and Polaris machines. It boils down to IRS and i get beat up and have to go much slower than they do. I am also way down on power compared to them. All of them call my quad the tractor because it can pull more than theirs, but i've been pulled out of mud holes by them because of my ground clearance. They ride me over this because i'm one of the only honda's in the hunting group, but i'm waiting for the day i have to tow one of them back to camp. So far it hasn't happened and my friend's Kingquad 700 has been super reliable just like my Rubicon, but he leaves me in the dust. Maybe Honda will update the Rubicon this year?? I sure hope so or i might be going Kinqquad 750axi or Grizzly for my next machine.

there is a time and a place for everything. if your buddies leave you behind just cause they can go faster then maybe its time to find new buddies. i'd never leave anyone behind if they cant keep up. `

i think all the people see the negetive things about the rubicon tranny because on this forum people just dont come on and say "hay guys i just want to say i have never had a problem " no we get its locked up or it grinds when in low ! ill bet that for every 1 bad rubi tranny there are 250 rubis or more that never fail !!!!!!!

I love my 2007 Rubicon and so what if other bikes will go faster. Mine tops at 58ish if I'm going downhill and going any faster than that is senseless and asking for a deathwish imo. It will do all you need it to do, everyday, all day. Let em rag you, but when theirs is locked up or blown up, you'll still be riding.

so true i was describing my bad experience but i wouldnt hesitate a moment to take mine on a 500 mile ride if i could, the guy i get my parts from and works on my stuff(but since i came back to honda 3 years ago i dont pay anymore mechanics fees!) was a honda mechanic for 30 years and he says the leading cause of tranny issues in the rubi is not running the honda oil made for it and not keepeing the oil clean in em and of course neglect all in all i think they are good machines and honda just let some 01s out a little too soon

Sometimes I feel like i'm riding a time bomb.
:blowup
That's just the feeling I want to avoid... but I'm really tempted by this '02 Rubicon I'm looking at.
I just don't want to buy something that I'm constantly paranoid about, wondering what that sound was... thinking maybe it feels a little different, but wondering if it's all in my head.

Like toodeep said.. There are more old rubicons with no problems then there are with problems.. The newer ones are a little better but i believe its all in the maintenance. Make sure you test ride it for a minimum of 15 minutes because it takes awhile to warm all that oil to get it to operating temps. Like mentioned above ppl come to the site when they have problems thats why you see it a lot.. My 2006 Rubicon has been flawless.. tires, brakes, upper control arm bushings... just maintenance stuff

I've had my ruby for almost 2 years and have had only one problem , with a sensor , it has 1000 miles and loves the mud , trails and snow , if you buy a rubicon your not buying it to go fast its a work horse if you wanna do 60 you may wanna consider another qaud , but ruby 500 will take ya thru just about any situation , at least mine has .

The problem is that people will only post the problems that they have inorder to get info of how it fix them. Very few people are going to post how good something has been after so many miles. This is the way I look at it. I dont think you can go wrong with a rubicon. Good luck with your search.

I think in most cases it's how the bike is ridden and maintained that causes them to fail.
Amen to that! They won't tell you that they've fully submerged it twice and only changed the oil once in two years and never changed the air filter. All they say is... "it's broken, what a piece of garbage... whine... whine... whine."

If you treat a Honda right and maintain it well, it'll last a long time.

Not always the case. Like I said, the newer Rubicon that the Hondamatic failed in was abused. But on the 01-04's they could fail even if you treat them well.

In the ten years or so I have been at the dealership I think I have only seen two that came in for any kind of major service, the one looked like it had sat outside for it's whole life and was beat up and put away wet many times, the other was I believe used for a snow removal company and the only thing they did was use to plow snow and salt parking lots and sidewalks, salt took it's toll on that machine, I dont think we have ever seen one that bad, plus you had eight to ten different people abusing it.

It's all in how you treat the machine.

I ride in the Swamps so where in the h$ll am I going to go that fast with cyprus knees and tree in the way. A bust of power to get thru :10 thick stuff sure 10-15 is fast in the woods here, so if u the need for Speed then the Rubicon not for you but if you need a Honda that day in and out with get u there and bad without problems aRUBICON is for U:happy
