IM thinking about going back to an older model foreman. I want another 450 s. I had oner and then got a rubicon. The rubicon sucked a$$, ill never get another one. Now i have the 500 foreman. I personally think that the 450 has more low end power and alot more "balls". Some opinions would be nice on the decision.

ya i thought bout goin back to a 450. but i dont know. since 2005 to day hondas foreman have been ****..
I don't know where yall' bought yall's from, but mine is awsome.I wouldnt buy anything different. And I sure wouldn't trade it.
I would only hate the fact I would miss the disc brakes
be sure to buy a can of black spray paint cause that aweful yellow color leaves me feeling a little less manly.

I have an 05 Foreman and couple of friends that I ride with have 01 and 04 450 Foremans. I can beat both in a 300' drag race. Neither can out pull my 500 and the ride on the old 450 is rough, very rough. The handling on the 500 is a lot better, even in 4 wheel drive. But you are right, the old 450 seems to be geared a little lower.
my friend has a 450 and hes been able to pull me out bout ever time. key word bout ever time..
i like that fact that i can outrun the 450's sorry had to say it. i dont think i would go to a 450 even tho they are an awsome reliable bike, after i've owned a 500, i like being able to switch in and out of 4x4 from factory and not having to buy the 424 kit.
the later foreman 450 models could switch from 2 to 4 wheel with the switch, can't remember when they started doing it but a buddy of mine has one that can do it.
i think they started that in 2002....as far as the subject goes,i like my 450 es alot.its been a great machine.to each there own...
ok my bad, i didnt know they ever came from factory like that, my buddy had one and it mustve been older than that then because he had to by a 424 kit for it
they started it in 2004 if i was to buy a used bike it would be an 04 450

they started in 2002. not 2004 LOL i wouldent trade that switch for the world after comming off driving a fulltime 4wd Rancher

from 98' to 01' they are fulltime 4wd.
i think the older ones are tougher .made stronger.
Maybe the 450's were built stronger, and there are a few more things out there because they're older, but when you ride the 450 it's like the little engine that could. When you get on the 500, it's the little engine that's already has, and will do it again on the whim. The 450 just rides so rough, it's nice to have a little coushin, for your rear end. just my .02
