Is it O.K. to use Mobil 1 15w50 Synthetic oil in my 500 Foreman? I see an ATV synthetic oil is made by Amsoil but it's $8.00 per QT.

It is not ok to use regular Mobil 1 oil with an ATV. It takes a special motorcycle oil which I find is hard to find in Mobil 1. Mobil 1 is a fuel conserving oil and Honda specifically says to not use a fuel conserving oil. It will cause slippage in transmission (engine and tranny share oil). I believe if wanting to use Mobil 1, you should use Mobil 1 MX4T 10W-40. Just got my first oil change and plan on using this next oil change. This is what Mobil 1 advertises for the MX4T 10W-40.

Mobil 1 MX4T 10W-40 is recommended for four-cycle motorcycles which specify the use of a 10W-40 engine oil. It provides excellent performance in motorcycle engines that are designed with a common engine/transmission lubrication system or where the engine lubrication system is separate from the transmission system. In the case of the latter, follow the manufacturer's recommendation for the type of fluid to be used in the transmission. Mobil 1 MX4T 10W-40 engine oil is also designed to provide the proper frictional characteristics necessary for wet-clutch engine/transmission systems. Mobil 1 MX4T 10W-40 exceeds the requirements of API Service Categories SH, SG/CF, CD, JASO MA and has been fully tested, both on laboratory dynamometers and in the field, to provide optimum horsepower and acceleration.

Fully synthetic Mobil 1 motorcycle oils are specifically engineered for use in motorcycles. The formulations are based on the proven technology used in other Mobil 1 automotive products, yet they are optimized for the unique requirements of a motorcycle engine and/or transmission. You can use them with confidence, knowing they will protect your bike in extreme situations where conventional motor oils simply can not stand up, including extended high-speed operation and prolonged idling in summertime traffic.

Mobil 1 with the RED cap used to be ok but check for the "energy conserving" circle just to be sure. IF it's on the bottle do NOT use it. I use Shell Rotella T in the BLUE gallon jug. It's a full synthetic and Walmart usually carries it for about $12 a gallon. When I find it, I buy 2 or 3 just to be sure I have some. I've also used Royal Purple, but I think it's pricey too.

The amsoil has the correct specifications, and you get it cheaper if you buy a membership. I can get it for less than $6 a quart.
