Sometimes it would be very handy if we could have a "street legal" ATV in Alaska. I think it would make those short hops on public roads a little easier.

Anyone else have thoughts on the issue???

:welcome Dan

I'm always surprised that AK has never
made the move to "Street Legal"

Here in AZ the state makes a ton on it !

try this on for size, not street legal, but legal to drive on the street. let me explain, you can ride on the streets here, provided that you have a destination, i.e. headin to or from the trail. you cant cruise main( except during the jamboree) which is next week by the way, or ride to work, that sort of stuff, but it's nice to not have to "load up" everytime you want a 2 hour ride after a hard day at work to unwind a little, just throw a beverage in the cooler and roll baby! lol. :cheers

Hi
I know Idaho is really ATV friendly. But you must buy their "street legal" hard plate. I think it is only $10

or $12 bucks a year. GREAT Buy. And Idaho just gave out-of-staters the option to buy the Idaho hard

plate too. Something we can NOT get from the State of Washington. Yes, our local (Loco) Wa officials

are missing a GREAT revenue source by giving ATV's the cold shoulder.

So add a mirror, brake light, and a horn, and you are OK. But better have the hard plate too!

Go visit Wallace Idaho. Tons of ATV trails. OK to ride from downtown parking too, or go eat at a cafe,

or whatever! Just remember to take it OUT of 4 wheel drive on the street.

Either you live in a bigger city in AK, or your local law enforcement is anal. Might find out if you can use a SMV (slow moving vehicle) sign, then keep it under 25mph. I live in ID and people have been using this trick for years to move anything not street legal.
