Still dying.

Ever since i have bought this 06 rubicon,it will die.Like in the snow under throttle, and let off,it will die.Or climbing(not steep hills, just climbing mountian roads) and let off it will die, just last week we were doing some trail riding, and we were climbing over some ice,and when i let off,it almost died, and was just barly running it was tapping thats how low the rpm was,and just stayed tlike that for 15 sec, until i gave it gas, then it died.It has been in the shop 21 times w/no cure...evething has been done, vavles float bowl, jet, and nothing has changed.Thats why i think EFi does belong on atv's.Does anybody Rubi do the same thing,Im talking going trail riding, and dieing like 20+ times, not just here and there.

Thanks,Cody

and your dealer couldnt figure it out after 20x in the shop?
ok, well here is a shot in dark to look at your problem. i bought a '05 rubi brand new and it had the same symptoms as yours. mine would idle crappy and die all the time. it turned out that the choke cable houseing was lodge outside on the shoulder of the carberator. consequently, it was was running around on 1/2 or more in the choke mode. good luck
Rock bottom.

Yea! They could not, even had a tech go ride it,and said everthing, worked just fien.I said lets go riding together, but that never did work out.

POPS.

I will check that out,it could be the problem, thanks for your insight.
any honda certified dealer can do warranty work, (at least that is what they told me) I would take it somewhere else even if you have to drive 2 hrs.
My '05 Rubi does the same thing occasionally, I'll check the choke cable. I don't understand your comment re EFI? Does your have EFI?
Sorry should have been clear.Mine does not have EFI,but i have seen some people on here ,say that EFi dont belong on atv's.I think they should, then you dont have these stalling problems, but i do think a big factor is,that they have no fuel pump.
EFI . i would bet there is something in the fuel tank /lines , some kind of restriction!!! Drain your fuel tank ..blow all the lines out (disconnected) backwards , lil spirts of air . really look closely at the fuel coming out of the lines... i would even do this whole procedure 2 times .. (meaning putting all fuel back in / lines hooked up etc . then drain everything ....etc ...blowing everything out . And don't miss not even 1 line .... you just may be surprised. The smallest lil foriegn object in an FI application with screw up the whole fuel system. I'm sure they have check fuel pump prssure and all that . Good Luck

I dont have, "EFI" Mine is carb, but i will try and blow everthing out,my choke was just fine.
Could be a number of things should be checked choke plunger or choke cable not routed properly causing choke to come on a little (like when the handlebars are turned to a certain position) .. The throttle cable could cause the same symptoms epically if it doesn't have the proper freeplay ..

The carb should be dis-assembled and soaked in Honda carb cleaner .. The air cut-off valve checked , jets soaked in Honda carb cleaner (it's the only carb cleaner that actually works) ..

How high in the mountains ..?.. do you have the proper jet & air screw setting for your elevation ..
My 06 Foreman was doing the same thing. After adjusting the Air/Fuel screw, everything worked perfect. My .02

Checked the choke, and throttle.Works perfectly,I live in Nampa,Idaho. The elevation is 2,000 to 2,300 ft, the highest i ride is 7,500 ft.The dealer says it has the right jetting for our elevation, But it dies from 2k all the way up to 7.5k.The dealer even cut the tube from the side of the carb, that goes into the airbox, this didnot help at all!!!! Now yesterday i was running it and i could feel air right by the rubber tube, that goes from the carb to the motor, i retightend it but still could feel air,so i put some rtv gasket around the inside of the tube, see if this is the problem. I have tried a lot of positons of the air/fuel setting, and this did nothing to my problem,so i feel this is not the problem. This has been a ongoing problem for me,and my dealer now wants to charge me for trying to fix this problem. But they have not fixed it!!!! Im getting real....short fused w/this bike, and if i cant fix it,it will be gone and a CANAM Will replace it,with..........FUEL INJECTION

Thanks for all your guys help! Also my dealer tech,said...that i could go one jet size lower, and this could resolve the problem...I think the size was 54 or 154 and i have 157 or 57.....Cant remember, but somthing like thats.Could this help?

Has to be something very simple, HondaMechanic will chime in.
For Canada under 5000 ft. you use a 162 main jet (158 main jet above 5000 ft.) the low jet is 45 .. Has the air cut-off valve been checked , the bike won't idle right or work right at low speeds if the air cut-off diaphragm has a hole in it or it is leaking , and make sure the carb vent tube isn't pinched/kinked a little ..
OK,Were is the "air cut off vavle"? is that were the tube come from the carb,to the air cleaner box? And is the carb vent the tube that runs down from under the carb? cuz it was kinked in 3 spots. Thanks for your help, honda mech.
There are 2 lines from that cross over the top of the carb, they are vent lines that need to be open( if they are not then your quad will bog and backfire, have no power.
There is one line directly from the bottom of the carb that has a phillips screw on it. That one is an overflow valve and a float bowl drain. If this one is plugged it will cause the quad to run like crap as well. Some people plug it because water can still get up it and into your carb on deep water riding. but you need to make sure it is drained sometimes. If you unthread the screw then you can tell if the hose is free because fuel will drain from it. Give that a try!
Ok i have checked those lines, and they are clear, took it out to climb the little hill................still died. Honda Mech...Can you send me a pic of the air cut off,ie were its at,my dealer thinks thats it to...

Thanks cody
