Steel wool muffler packing

I just bought a Supertrapp Mudslinger and I want to quiet it down. I read somewhere on here somebody wrapped steel wool around their spark arrestor core to quiet it down. I have a removeable spark arrestor core and wondered what would happen. Any advice? Hunting season is here and noise does not really play into the equation!

I think it would work ok for a short period of time(hunting season), I wouldn't put to much in it, to much may fry you rings from the backpressure. eventually it will burn out the steel wool or plug up which would not be good. you will just have to keep an eye on it.
Use some muffler packing from www.denniskirk.com or somewhere comparable. Steel wool can be some unstable material. Catching fire when mixed with the right chemicals and heat. I'd use material designed for the application. That way you can avoid excessive back pressure from a clogged pipe.
Steel wool is definately flammable, if you think this is a good idea, you should also douche yourself in gasoline then light up a cigarette...
