Getting my '05 ready for spring riding: new tires, new brake shoe, left and right rear wheel bearings, etc.
Pulled the plug and it's black. I've been reading through a lot of the carb tuning posts and videos (really great) so I want to get it adjusted, based on the plug should i just go ahead and order a few main jets from jetsrus.com? I bought the bike used a couple years ago and it has 8,500km on it, not sure what jet is currently in it, so I might buy a stock and +3. It's running the factory Honda snorkel, otherwise stock. I ride at 1000ft +/- 200

If it were me, I think I’d make sure the air filter is clean and not over oiled, make sure the enricher is moving properly, and also clean the spark arrestor screen in the muffler. Then try a new plug, and see how it looks after a bit.

Assuming it’s had this plug in it since you bought it used, the previous owner could have left the choke on way too long, or could have tipped the machine over and got oil into the intake or whatever.

Plug was changed when I bought, so it has around 1000km on it. Air filter is ok, used K&N oil. Going to get a standard Champion plug to use while adjusting. I'll give the screen a clean with brake cleaner.
