A freind of mine has a 01' 450es and the shifter went out last year so he had a foot shifter installed. It worked okay, until today.
Now it is stuck in 3rd gear, and won't come out. When trying to downshift ,the pedal just jumps back and will not move.
Any ideas on how to fix this bike?
Thanks for your help.

First Check the clutch adjustment just to be sure it is not something that simple that has been overlooked.

Then

1st Remove Alt Cover (rear of engine) Look for loose gear shift A-arm bolt. If nothing evident there then
2nd Remove Front cover and Clutch Assy. Check Shift linkage for loose bolts or damaged linkage. If nothing found, then Transmission will have to be disassembled.

Note: the ES transmission has some differences in linkage, and gears from the S transmission. It is not really designed to be shifted manually except to get you home in a pinch.
