rubicon maximum tire size question

I have read before that on the older body style rubicons the the largest tire that you can mount on the front is a 26x9.50x12 because any wider or taller and they will rub the fender braces. Does anyone know if this is true?

I ran 27x10 laws on all four corners with only a little rubbing. The left side fender gets rubed ever so lightly and the fender braces get a good beating when turned fully, but you can either bend them or buy/make a kit that takes care of the fender braces.
Hello, I just put new Bear Claws on my 2004 Rubicon and they fit great. They are 26x9x12 fronts, 26x12x12 rears. No lift and no rubbing. They dont stick out much further than stocks and they line up great front to rear. Take a look
i had 27" executioners on mine with a 1.5" lift and the only time they rubbed is when the front shocks were compresed and they would rub on the fender supports. all i did is beat the supports in a little and it worked fine. also on the front fenders when the plastic pins would come out the black mud flaps would catch in my tires when they were weighed down with mud.

Right now I am running 26x9x12 and 26x12x12 AMS Swamp Foxes and I probably dont even have 10 miles on them yet. I was really wanting a set of mud bugs/gators but I was afraid to buy them since they were either 10" or 12" wide in the 26's.
CardRon: Why did you put 26's on the front and 27's on the rear?
????? I thought maybe I typed wrong somewhere? Anyway if I did, Sorry, all 26's
there is a fender kit you can buy from Moose or Highlifter that is a fender bracket that replaces the old one which will stop any rub.

Those things are god awfully expensive for no more than they are. The highlifter would cost you a arm, leg, and 9 toes, the moose on the other hand is only half that (around 50). Cheap solution...just hammer them in or build your own set.
