hey guys, all of a sudden my rear brake hasnt been working..well barely working...the adjusting wing nut is at its max and the brake lever is barely tight, lots of play...and the rear brake barely holds...it definently seems to be a stretched cable..its an 02 rubicon but it only has 400 miles so its brand new basically...also the foot brake pedal is the same exact way and the pedal never been used so i doubt thats a stretched cable..i took the drum apart and cleaned everything, no better...any ideas?

take a look at the shaft where it goes into the brake drum. take it clear out and clean it really good, use sand paper to get all the dirt and stuff off. my brakes were doing the same thing, and i cleaned the shaft and it fixed everything.

alright...im looking at it now...trying to figure out how to get it clear out...
figured it out, but it was clean...but im trying something now that could work, ill report back...
nope, no better...im not sure if i put the brake arm back on the cam (shaft) the right way, i forgot to mark it, but i think i got it back to atleast the way it was...
There should be alignment marks to install the lever in the correct position.I know mine does. You could try installing it a spline off to get more adjustment.
ok thanks, there probably is marks and i just missed them, but thatll just get me back to where i was... but im thinking it must be the cable? but how? 2 cables gone bad? one for the lever and the other for the foot brake which is never ever used...it all worked fine not long ago at all and all of a sudden, all loose and crappy..
Yeah, that doesn't sound right, just all of a sudden like that. How did the shoes and drum look?how thick is the lining on the shoes?
they look good, very thick, the things only got 400 miles on it...
just because brake pads lood good dosent mean that they are good, but i would hate for you to buy new ones and it still not work. when you pull the lever does it just stay there or does it go back? you can take the end of the brake that attaches to the arm and try to work it back and forth to see if it is not broke or anything. i really doubt that both cables went bad all at once, my gess would be the shaft like i said before or the pads. you said that the shaft was good though like i said, just take the lines off of the are and try to work them back and forth to see of they are streched or broke.

when i pull the lever it just stays there, if i max out the adjuster it will somewhat slowly go back..if i disconnect the cables from the brake arm and just move the brake arm by hand it moves the shaft nicely and the pads up...and i let go of the brake arm with my hand and it instantly returns...so it must be my cable...but still both cables? sorta weird...basically theres way to much slack in the cable it seems...like the cable at the lever end will come out of the lever if you know what i mean...
My rear brakes went out on my 06 and the pads looked fine but i changed them any how and the work like a champ
im having the same prob. ive adjusted it to the max and my rear brakes are just as loose as can be. im thinkin about just doin the rear brake conversion kit...
turns out my pedal is working fine, which means the brake pads, drums shaft etc is all good, so it MUST be a stretched out hand lever cable, so i have a new one on its way...
