they use to use them on the older foremans, but they didn't hold up to the extra torque that the foremans put out. I can't remember where I seen or read this.

I sure wish you could, I would prefer messing with diffs than internal gearing. This might be worth looking into a little more. I never thought of the 420............what was the reduction % w/ the 420 ring gears? would you have to change the pinion as well?
