what do i do to make sure that my clutch is adjusted like it should be.

i hear a popping noise in 1rst when i shift up from R to N and then into 1rst.

but where on the bike is the locknut...???

i am not getting it...

the nut and ajustment screw are on the front case cover of your motor on the left side facing forward
