The Rubicon uses a hydrostatic transmission ... The shift control motor changes the angle of the swash plate , (the easiest way to explain it is) each different angle simulates a different gear .. They are VERY smooth shifting ..

We use Rubicons at work for everything from towing (with tow strap) , pushing with bumper , towing trailers with junked bikes or move boats .. We drive them VERY hard , when we tow across the main road the bike is wide open with the front wheels several inches off the ground ..

You don't have to wait for anything to warm up or pressure to build up , just get on start it and go ..
