I have a 2006 RUBICON . I also like the "auto" feature ,when you want it .You can put it in any gear you want, at any speed in esp . No computer "override" .Keeps the RPMs down and keeps my HMF pipe quiet . I dont think there are any actual "gears" its all hydraulic . ESP only simulates different gears.The Trans doesnt seem to make alot of noise. The LOW gear is alot of FUN . It only does @ 38mph in low before it bounces of the rev limiter . If you use low and ESP its really responsive keeps the rpms right were you want them .Great for hill climbing or mud .The price is a little on the high side , but if you keep looking around sometimes you see them for @ $6000. Please explain Rubicon tranny
I've sold my Vinson and am deciding on a Foreman ES or Rubicon. I don't really understand the rubi tranny. Is it an actual 5 speed tranny that is shifted hydraulically, or is it a CV type auto, and the esp setting is really just holding preset oil pressures to simulate gearing? I like the idea of an auto, but my Suzuki CVT was less than quiet and didn't afford much versatility. Is a rubicon as quiet as a Foreman es 5 speed, or does the tranny make some more noise? When in esp mode, does it have a computer override so the engine can't be lugged, or could I cruise at 10 mph at idle on a flat road in 3rd or 4th and not get overidden by some computer? Reliability seems to be as good ar better than ES foreman model's, so that doesn't really worry me too much. I also like the low range option on a rubicon, I'm just not sure I like the price tag! Feel free to tell me anything else about either model you wish to comment on. Thanks, I want to buy the right machine this time.

The Rubicon uses a hydrostatic transmission ... The shift control motor changes the angle of the swash plate , (the easiest way to explain it is) each different angle simulates a different gear .. They are VERY smooth shifting ..

Vinson For the Ruby
Why did you not like the vinson? I got rid of a king quad for a ruby and love it. The trany is geared hi range for fast road fast trail riding and the low gear is good for the hills and technical trails. I think you will love the ruby especially the tranny. I think that the esp shifting is for the old school boys and that the auto will satisfy most of your riding needs.

The Vinson was a great Bike for a guy who likes to go ride trails. It was very sporty feeling and comfortable, but it was extremely noisy and real tippy feeling in off camber stuff. I hesitated to sell it because I never had a problem in 4 years, but I sold it for 400 less than I paid new so I'm happy. The Rubicon tranny seems to be the answer to my needs, providing it is QUIET. Anybody have anymore info, please share it with me. What should I be looking to pay for a 07 Rubi, I'm thinking 6600 or so wouild be fair.

mountians,dried up rivers & washes I've had it
up to 8600ft without jetting issues
It took about 800 miles for it to 'loosen' up but
after that all I do is Ride,And it's so quiet I sneek

some people love the auto tranny and some people hate it. it is ok untill something goes wrong, like the angle sencer, control motor, and the tranny. i will never own another auto honda, i think it is a really bad setup, i much rather get aforeman 500. you cant even ride hard or anything because you have to wait for the presure to buld up to shift. dont get me wrong, you can still ride hard but its kind of a pain whenever you are racing around and stuff. IMO, get the foreman 500, you will have less problems.

We use Rubicons at work for everything from towing (with tow strap) , pushing with bumper , towing trailers with junked bikes or move boats .. We drive them VERY hard , when we tow across the main road the bike is wide open with the front wheels several inches off the ground ..
You don't have to wait for anything to warm up or pressure to build up , just get on start it and go ..

what i was meaning my presure building up is, like when you are climbing a hill or something it has to bog a little big before it shifts down. i know you proubly dont care i was just making my self clear so people wouldnt think i was making up anythnig.

What is your preferance with Honda ATV (Rincon, Rubicon or Foreman). I enjoy using it for everything from trail riding to hunting in the steep mountains. Also have you heard anything about going IDR suspension with fuel injections coming on the new 2008 models (Rubi or Foreman).
