PERFEX KIT QUESTIONS....

7887 Views 24 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  fununmud
I see a lot of people with the PERFEX kit like it a bunch. But I also see that some people say that it caused them to bust a U-Joint in the rear axle. I'm getting ready to install mine, but I don't want to install it if it is going to cause me to have problems.....

I don't know how it would cause problems though. I see bikes with twice as much lift that don't have problems with their U-Joints.

Fill me in with the good and bad so I can see which way it leans....WILL IT BREAK U-JOINTS OR NOT?

Thanks

I just installed the Perfex LT kit on my Foreman two weeks ago. I don't have a long term U-joint report but, I can say that the ride is much better and I really like the way the bike sits now. I put the rear shocks in the middle hole and seems to be just right. The U-joint is at more of an angle but not such that it will cause any premature wear. I would recomend this modification to any Foreman owner who is looking for better ride, a little more lift, and all for a reasonable cost.
I have only heard of one person breaking a u-joint after installing the perfex I have had mine for about 200 miles and love it. There are a ton of people running 2 inch lifts without problems and the perfex is only about an inch so I say go for it.
I haven't really checked out the kit yet....but I notice people saying they run shocks in different holes. I didn't notice any adjustments on the kit. I only saw parts with just two holes. You mount 1 where the shocks were mounted and 1 you mount the shock to.

Can someone show me a pic of this peice where there are different adjustments so I can see if my kit is the same?

And which adjustment is best?

Thanks

Do you have the Perfex Lift Kit or the Perfex Long Travel Suspension Kit?

Here is a pic of the Lift Kit which is not adjustable and does not soften the ride.
Here are front and rear pics of the long travel kit.....

THANKS FOR THE PICS EVERYONE.....

WVFOREMAN...Your pics are exactly what I have. Have you had any adverse effects from the angle of the U-Joint? Your pics will also help with my install. How much lift did the kit actually give your FOREMAN, and I see your kit is set in the middle hole. What difference did that make over the other setting (LAST HOLE) as far as lift and ride goes?

ALSO...are there any adjustments that have to be made to the TOE-IN or OUT for the front Tires....because of the lift effect of the kit?

Just wondering.

Clark
SupermanWV, I put my rear shocks in the middle hole because the ride hieght seemed to be the best. The quad sits nice at this setting. I didn't try the first hole. You will love the ride that this mod will give your Foreman over stock suspension.

I think I am that one person! But that aint sayin much cuz I could somehow tear up a steel ball bearing with a toothpick somehow

I broke my U joint 3 days after I put the LT Kit on My foreman 500! They only thing that I can see wrong with the kit is that it lets the rear flex too much......the rear Ujoint is not at the greatest angle to begin with on the 500's I dont know if it is the same with the 450 or not(Its been a while since I rode mine) but with the LT kit it allows you to flex more therefor puttin more stress on the U joint when it flexs other than that its a great kit!

The two inch lift on the other hand does make the angle worse but it doesnt increase the flex or the amount of movement on the U joint like the LT kit does!

What difference did that make over the other setting (LAST HOLE) as far as lift and ride goes? I didnt try the last hole but I think it would make the back sit up too high...

If you need help just holler...
WVFOREMAN,

Thanks for all the info. I appreciate it. If I have any questions I'll PM you.

Now all I need is a little time to install this kit.

Can you use this long travel kit with a lift kit or does this take the place of the lift kit ?
PERFEX lift kit

Hi can anyone give me any key words for finding this long travel kit on ebay? I have tried everything and I have found lots of other kits for raising a foreman, but looking at the pictures of the perfex kit, it seems to be superior to me.

thanks

it gives about a 1-1.5" lift. no you cant use other lift kits with it, it will put your axles at a very bad angle.

hondasuzukicat, the kit is only 100-120 bucks just order it though your dealer or other online parts store. simpler.

after i installed my HL 2" lift my front tires were screwed up BAD!! they were both pointed in about 3" more than normal. so all i had to do was adjust the tie-rods... that wasnt much fun! lol but to answer your question, the lift might change up the front end a little bit, but if it does all you have to do is adjust the tie-rods.
no big deal
well guys you talked me into it. Shes on the way, should be here by the end of the week!
but my foreman is going into the dealership for work, so i probley wont see it again until next next week at the earlyist
