painting racks

If you put that stuff out of the spray can on i think that it will chipp pretty easy that is the same stuff that i spray my snorkle and my rims with and i am constintly haveing to touch up the rims but i havent had any problems with the snorkle chipping........if you arent goint to be pushing people out of holes then you should be fine but if your going to be putting alot of pressure on it i think that you might want to go with what my buddy did his with it came in a can and he painted it on with a brush and it is so ruff that if you scrape your finger acrossed it it will hurt but it has stood up to just about anything thrown at it

dirtyrider6104 is right. I used this spray can stuff on my Rincon, it looked good but wasn't durable. Scratched really easy. However I used it on the front skid and it held up pretty well. Seems like it does not adhere to metal very well.

i removed my front rack and took it to truck place that sprays on Rhino linings bed liner. it is thick about 1/8" and rubbery so nothing slides around and it is nearly indestructible.

How much did it cost?

$50.00. at the time i thought that it might be a waste of money but i'm very pleased with the results. i wish honda would do something like this from the factory.

Are the racks very hard to remove? I thought somone said that the rear one was a pain to take off or something like that.

my local rhino liner place wants $150 to do the racks

Does anyone know if that price is kinda high? I was thinking that an entire fullsize truck bed was like $300 or so, but didn't ask about that.

The rear rack just takes about 5 min to take off, just a few bolts.

$150.00 seems a little pricey. i think the rhino dealers are independent and a charge for something like the racks is estimated by "best guess" by the dealers. remember everything is negotiable. i think i mentioned to the dealer that my atv club was interested in seeing the outcome for future projects. might have influenced the price a little.

Good idea about the telling them others might want to do it as well. The only reason I could think of it being so high is that the prep work might take a while to sand and clean all those tubes. They said it would only take 2-3 hours and there done. I wouldn't mind sanding it all down then take it in and all they have to do is wipe it off and spray the stuff on. Sure would be a nice mod to do but sounds way to much for what your gonna get though.

In Canada we use Duraguard or you guys might call it Rockercoating to paint our racks.You buy it from your bodyshop supply guys it is a bumpy coating used on vehicles lower rocker area to prevent stonechips.It works aresol cans are cheap and comes in black.

i dont know why that can just spray rhino lining over the powder coating on the rack since they spay it right over paint on trucks

When Rhino lining is applied, they rough up the surface to guarantee adhesion. I have a buddy who owns the local RL dealership here.

For folks that have Rhino-lined or Line-Xed there racks -- can you still fit the hook of a tie down strap or bungee cord over the rack?

I am wanting to have it done but am afraid the liner will make the diameter of the tubing too big to fit my tie-downs over. Opinions?

you can just open the hooks up if they are to tight

i took both racks off of mine and also the front bumper, painted them with the truck bed coating that you get in the can from walmart.

it looked very cool and held up pretty well until i pushed a buddy out of a hole and it started to chip and peel. they lasted a good 3 months, after that i sanded them down and put 3 coats of flat black spray paint. and that has held up better.
