What type of oil is everyone running in their Rubicons? I am looking for a new brand and want some input. Right now I am using Honda oil.

I am using Honda GN4. I do not want to take a chance using something wrong with the hydraulic transmission. If it is good enough for Honda it is good enough for me. Even if it is $1 or $2 more a quart than some other oil the peice of mind is worth it to me.

I use Rotella T Synthetic, $21 a gallon at Walmart, was $16 a gallon before economy went in tank. Amsoil is great but $10 a quart. Honda GN4 is fine but is no different that any petroleum based oil for wet clutch application. Why pay more. There have been so many blogs on this its amazing. Oil is a personal choice. I prefer synthetics.

Honda doesn't make oil
Mercury doesn't make quicksilver outboard oil
GMC doesn't make oil.
Bombardier doesn't make snowmobile oil.
Caterpillar doesn't make hydraulic oil.
Sea Star/Hynautic/Capalano - - they don't make oil.

Honda makes Cars, Bikes and a slew of other products (pretty good ones)
Mercury makes outboard motors (tall dark & handsome broke on the transom)
GMC makes trucks (isuzu makes their diesel engines)
Bombardier makes snowmobiles, jet skis and now OMC outboards
Caterpillar makes heavy equipment
SeaStar makes hydraulic systems

Yet all of these manufacturers will team up with an oil supplier and slap their label on Exxon or whomever's product.

Meet the SAE specs fellas and you are good to go.

I have worn out some gear in my life and not once has a mechanical device given up the goat due to a lubricant failure.
Sure I have had em lock up from LACK of lube (hole in the earl pan)
Slung rods due to overloading

Think about it.

Ive been running Shell Rotella T synthetic 5w-40.
Gives fast lubrication to the ever so pricy "HondaMatic" tranny in even the coldest of starts and the hottest of trail rides. A little more $ than the GN4 though. This oil comes highly recommended on other Rubicon sites.
"and no it doesnt have any friction modifiers to mess up the clutch"
:my2cents

I have a 2018 Honda Rubicon Deluxe with approx. 130 miles on it and did my first break in oil change. Now the atv shifts rough and when I put it into reverse, it needs to be revved up to a certain rpm before its engages into reverse. When it does go into reverse, it pretty much pops into gear. Now the forward shifting is also rough and out of wack both automatic and manual. I used the Honda, GN4 10w-30 oil sold to me by the dealer and it still does it. Ive done 2 oil changes on it with that exact oil and it still hasn't solved the problem. Now the dealer I bought it from says he only puts 5w-30 oil in it and states that is my problem?? Can someone please tell me if they have had this problem before and if the type of oil (10w-40 to 5w-30) would make that difference?
