Shell Rotella T? Is this the same stuff put in diesel engines? If so, why? What
are the advantages?

Chick the link above and it will tell you why.
Well, i'll be.
I use Pennzoil all the way.
Never Ever use Pennzoil ! All my years as a Mechanic I would shy away from Pennzoil oil. It is the only oil on the market that has a PARAFFIN base. That means WAX. If you ever mix pennzoil with a normal or synthetic oil, and then add the heat from your engine you get good ol fashion sludge. Just not all its cracked up to be.
Thanks for that piece of information Hondude.
so is that rotella t a good oil to use in the 450 s motors? if so what kind...
Amsoil 4 stroke ATV oil!! All the electric shifting problems I was having with a Recon ES went away after switching to Amsoil. It's full synthetic and I buy it at my local NAPA store.
I only use amsoil in anything i or my family owns with a motor bolted to it.extended drain intervals in the cars and trucks and that's a money and a time saver.for the quad it gets amsoil 10w-40 synthetic 4 stroke motorcycle oil.and rotella t for the diesels has all the additives for the suspension of soot and acids caused from idling the big diesel motors.sorry guys but it will never be used in my atv.it's a diesel motor oil not an atv motor oil.they are subject to 2 totally different abuses here.
Just for the sake of asking....What is wrong with just using the Honda oil? Has never let me down yet and it is not going to void any warrenty .

I have to chime in and agree here. It's not like it's a diesel engine that holds ten gallons or anything so I don't think it would break the bank to use it. I ONLY use Honda oil and Honda filters. They don't cost any more than EMGO filters and Valvoline ATV oil and this way I don't have to worry about proper lubrication.
I was using Honda GN4 oil and the ES would always lock up,and not shift like the clutch wasn't disengaging.Replaced the angle sensor twice, the shift computer and the switches, adjusted the clutch twice, still wouldn't shift every time. When I changed the oil with AMSOIL all the shifting problems went away.
HONDA GN4 IS NOTHING BUT MOBIL ONE WITH ADDITIVES TO LUBRICATE THE TRANSMISSION. THATS THE DIFFERANCE BETWEEN REGULAR AUTOMOTIVE OIL AND ATV OR MOTORCYCLE OIL. MOTORCYCLE OIL HAS ADDITIVES THAT RESIST BEING BROKE DOWN BY TRANSMISSION GEARS AND STILL HAVE THE ABILITY TO LUBRICATE THE REST OF THE ENGINE. I PERSONALLY USE CASTROL 10-40 AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS, BUT I CHANGE MY OIL ALOT MORE OFTEN THAN WHATS RECOMMENED, LIKE AFTER EVERY HARD RIDE. TO THE GUY THAT DOESENT LIKE PENNZOIL, IVE GOT 245 THOUSAND MILES ON A PICKUP WITH NOT A SINGLE MOTOR PROBLEM.....EVER.
Shell RotellaT works GREAT for me! nearly 4000 miles and it is far superior to the Honda oil. i'm constantly climbing or descending mountains and my electric fan used to run all the time (i use engine braking more than the junk drum system that honda stuck us with!)! i'm not saying it doesn't run at all now, just ALOT less. plus, when i drain the oil, it still has some "thickness" to it. the honda oil looked very thin after a few hundred miles. been using the rotella T in the kid's kawasaki as well.
