oil

No nearest honda dealer 1 hr away, can I ck it with normal gages or does it have to be honda gages. But that oil pressure vavle is stuck bad could that make difference. Also changed oil had metal deposit in filter and oil it is making hard rapping noise at idle .
If you have a gage that will go up to 160-180 PSI ...

If there's metal in the filter housing then it should be taken apart and see what the problem is .. Could be the camchain tensioner , scuffed piston or bad rod bearing or 1 of several other things but it should be fixed and the cases cleaned out ..

I greatly appreciate your help, I have been reading other peoples problems and I noticed you give them some help. I was really glad when you answered, you seem to have some good knowledge and are eager to help people, you don't find that much anymore. So would I be better off selling machine as is to someone and just buying a similiar machineor with my limited knowledge put in back of garage and pull motor and make a winters project of it. I need a usalble machine soon for hunting season.

Ditto on Honda Mechanic, we are lucky to have him here on this Forum!

Tuff call on selling the bike or fixing it. I have found the dreed or insecurities about trying to repair or take something apart is always worse than actually doing it. Do some research, get a Shop Manual (a must) and GO FOR IT!! You will find plenty of moral support here along with some excellant assistance from the resident pros on this forum.
It's hard to get all the filings out of the engine , oil lines , cooler etc. and the filings going thru the hydrostatic transmission won't do it any good .. They aren't that hard to fix (the transmission is a complete unit) but they are expensive to fix ..
