Hello,
I have a Honda Rubicon 500 with the stock tires. I use it for snow plowing my driveway. We had some snow, then some rain and I was getting stuck in the slushiness. I'm looking for more traction and I don't know if I would do better with new tires, something like the Kenda Bearclaw or with chains on the stock tires. Any opinions or help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I put some ripsaws on Honda aluminum wheels, studded them. I just use them in the winter on a 2018 foreman plow rig. They are heavy tires, which is good for plowing.

I have 02 Honda foreman and stock tires at 30% tread with chains out due ITP 589 Tires at %80 tread.

Now what type of chains due you want? I usually run the stockers with chains in the winter and then swap out to summer mud tires in the spring. 4 lug nuts and off tire and rim comes and on goes summer tires.

Have plowed snow for 20 years with the foreman and the stockers with chains you'll push about 30% more snow than just the reg tires.

I plow snow with a 02 Honda rancher with 50" blade in town and that ATV gets swapped over to stock tires and chains each fall as when I'm in town and get that one stuck I don't have a 2nd atv to come and resuce me.

Where I live the 02 foreman has a 60" blade and Mudzilla tires and if your on hard pack or ice they just spin and shine up the snow. The Rancher with chains will dig scratch and keep clawing unless your high center the frame on the snow.

Chain type is the next question are you plowing on asphalt or cement? if you spin with chains you can leave marks but if your careful and easy on the throttle and let of the gas when you have stopped the marks wont be noticable.

If on pavement 2 link twisted is best. if on Gravel or dirt then 2 link V bar dig the best.

Even 4 link twisted is better than New tires. I have plowed with ITP 589, Mud Zilla, Swamplites and stock tires with chains put them all to shame.

Thanks for al the info. I'll be plowing on gravel, that's what our driveway is. So the 2 link V bar. That was going to be another question, if chains are the way to go, then what are the best kind for my gravel driveway.

2 link V bar if your gonna buy new. the tirechain.com site is not as nice to get around on as I remember so may want to look else where as well.

I'm always on the look out for tire chains on garage sales or CL/FB can find some good deal's and them size them to fit for my needs. This is a pic of my Garden tractor with 2 link Hybird chains as it has 1 cross bar V then regular twisted then next bar is a V. I had 1 chain of the V bar and 2 regular 4 link so I broke down the single v bar chain and added those as extra cross on the 4 link set that I had. my thinking was that the V bars dig and scratch then the reg twisted will sweep the trash that the v bars made. giving the next V bar fresh bit into the same spot that is if your spining in the same spot and not moving.

If I was buying new Id get the V bar 2 link but they are not cheap.

Tip for putting tire chains on let the air out of the tire and put chains on then air tire back up and they are on super tight.

Hook inside first then outside.

for my rancher that I swap tires out each spring/fall those tire I put up on a table and put the chains on that way as its alot nicer working at waist height and able to flip tire front back and get chains tight.

Zip tie the inside extra links as you don't want them flying around causing damage. Front tires zip tie extra outside links well.
