Do not oil either. You only have to oil the filter when you clean it and none on the outerfilter
i have heard that if the k&n filters are a little dirty that it is better for the bike. i dont know why thats just what i heard.

i went ahead and put a light coat of oil on it. i looked on k&n's website and found instructions on the way to oil it. it didnt say anything about new ones, it felt dry so i put it on. should i clean it and redo?
just leave it like that and slap that baby on
Mine said that it was preoiled on the wrapper. If the filter is pinkish/redish then it has oil on it. It will turn almost white when you use the cleaner on it to clean it then you have to reapply the oil but not to much. Just until it is pinkis/redish again.
