whats happening fellas?i have a 1996 honda trx 300 fourtrax.i decided to upgrade the aging bike and installed a front basket rack and some floorboards.after installing both of these very handy options i read at the bottom of the instructions that it is recommended to take the shift lever off and move it up a notch to help when we have big boots on to shift better/easier.well,i got the lever off ok it was when i went to put it back on i evedently stripped the bolt or the actual shift lever.the bolt got ot a point and just spun and spun.i have tried everything to get the bolt out.i pulled from the bottom with a pair of vise grips thinking i might get the bolt to catch some threads but no go.so i got the bright idea to just cut the bolt into with a hacksaw blade then i could maybe pry the shifter off of the bar/splines going into the transmission.well that is not working either since i am a little afraid to use too much force as to not bend the rod that the shift lever is attached to.also, does anybody know what the part number is for the honda oem shift lever for this bike?i am trying to find one online for cheaper than the stealership wants for one.they quoted me like $57.00 for it.
thanks,
big ed

if the splines on the gearshift and the shaft are not stripped id just drill out the old bolt and put a new bolt and nut with a loc washer on it, same thing happened to my dads 84 200 big red 3 wheeler. We did that and havent had a problem since we did it 10 years ago

I've had this happen on my 500 foreman...The splines went on me, so decided to cut the middle where there is a little gap with a side grinder..made it open, drilled a hole into the bolt hole. Put a bolt and nut on the bottom...made it tight, Was working fine until my piston went...still had it on for atleast 5 months.
