Got the front cover pulled off, had two washers fall out. Think i know where they go. My next question is how do you get the retainer ball #14 and spring #11 to stay in place when trying to get the cover put back together? And on mine, the spring #11 is in front of the retainer ball #14, instead of behind it like in this picture. Now that I think about it, I have had slight shift problems ever since I have owned it. Could be the spring was installed wrong??

No, not on the back rack yet but will. I did get the adjuster screw out of case. Had to pound on it pretty good but got it out. The ball retainer has a little collar on it, mine was pointing to the front of the machine, in the picture it looks like it points to the rear of the machine with the spring on it touching the clutch cam plate. That sound right Rich??

Thanks Rich, It would of helped if I would have read a little farther into the manual. lol Well then, the spring and retainer were installed backwards from factory. The spring was against the adjuster plate, not the lifter cam. Will go out now and install it in the right direction.

Will try to take a pic of how it was installed tomorrow evening and then another pic of how the manual and online parts break down photos show how it should go. Thanks Glide

Got it put back together tonight. Does feel a touch better when down shifting but still feels about the same when upshifting. Lifting the front end up with the cherry picker did make the job way easier.

To those following this thread….

Taking the cover off is a last resort job for me….. like, I’ll ride the thing as is and then sell it next yr or so if it came down to dooin’ that….

So…

Has anyone had any luck loosing the adjuster without removing the cover..??

PB Blaster?

Kane-o Kroil…??

Liquid Wrench..???

I like the comment about getting a slotted drive with a ratchet and having the nut at the end and try to torque it loose, but haven’t tried it yet.

The gasket on mine was tore up when i took the cover off. 95% was stuck to the cover and the other 5% was stock to the engine. The gasket is a little pricey but worth the money.

Shoot thats not too bad..never hurts to have a few extra parts hanging around, like a extra angle sensor, We all know they are prone to go bad!

Well great news, I found a frozen adjustment screw too. Mine still shifts fine, so I'm not going to mess with it yet.
I'm not even going to touch mine, until I begin having problems then replace it....if I do I know myself, ill have to tear it apart just to know it works proper! :lol

When loosening the locknut, are you supposed to hold the screw with a screwdriver so that it doesn't turn with the locknut?
I have loosened the locknut only a little but the screw turns as well, not sure if that's normal.
If I hold the screw with screwdriver the locknut won't move.
