Well, I've been reading the 200 posts about adjusting the clutch, and looks like 1/2 of them are about the clutch adjustment screw being seized.

Guess that means on my 2 09 FM's that I need to get that done, or at least make sure the screws aren't seized. One of mine is sometimes a little hard to get into gear. Doesn't bother me, but when the woman was riding it she was having trouble with it.

First off, I CANNOT unscrew the adjusting screw out all the way to clean threads up and put anti-seize on it, correct?

If I can't, then is there any way to get anti-seize on the bolt, or is the only way to do that to remove front cover, remove bolt, then grease and reinstall?

The adjusting screw is on the driver's side of the front case, correct?

Thanks. Wish me luck/ hope mine aren't seized!

yes the nut is on the left side of the front cover!
yes you should be able to unscrew the nut all the way off but you canot remove the adjustment screw unless you remove the front cover

Just found out tonight that the adjustment screw on my Foreman is froze up. Been reading thought that thread also and decided to check mine tonight. It has been kind of hard to shift sometimes for about 3 years now. I guess I am going to order the gasket and orings and tear into it sometime.

have you guys tried using one of the products like break free for a few days or rust buster?.......it "Might" help.

also trying to take the nut off of unscrew the bolt while the engine is hot "might" help....but BE warned it can get burned/blistered FAST.
(yea I know it will not come all the way out)

BTW...these are only off the cuff suggestions.

Both my 07 and 08 wont move and I already tried everything except heat little hesitant on that. My 08 only got 200km on it and its froze lol. My 02 turns free as anything figure that one out . I know the dissimmilar metals is the problem . I thought I read somewhere there are some items that fall out once the cover comes off and you need to know how to put them back , something I shoud find out before attacking this I would think. I would think one could back the screw all the way out and slather antiseeze on it as tight to the case as possible and then screw the screw back in . Do this a few times and it should put antiseaze on the threads inside the case and help a bit . Im not sure if its the treads that sease or if there is a smooth area behind the threads and it is seasing to the bore. ( I'm not sure how to spell sease , I hope I got at least one of them correct):happy

dont heat up the front cover around the adjustment screw because theres a rubber o-ring that will melt ....then the cover will let water in the oil and will need to come off anyways to replace o-ring

Opening the case to free the screw is not that hard to do.
You will need to drain the oil, remove the oil cooler tubes and maybe the fan. I can't remember. The items that fell out where a washer and the adjustment assembly. It was very easy to see where they went back. Once the case is off it was easy to free the screw, clean and apply anti-seize.
It is well worth the effort. You will notice a big change in shifting with it being adjusted properly.

Well one of my two turned easily. The other one looks like it wants to be difficult. I've hosed it down with PB Blaster and will try that a few times before I do anything more.

Looks like I can screw it out as far as it will go (counterclockwise) and hopefully get some anti seize on there to keep it from doing this again.

ETA. Well, I got a flathead bit for a rachet. Got the one on the wreck to turn, but in the process I deformed the slot to the point where the lock nut won't go back on. It will turn but takes a lot of oomph. I got it back where it should be sans lock nut. I'll ride it till it needs to be adjusted and then have to pull the front cover and put a new on in there.

I used a flathead bit on the ratchet as well.I just backed the locknut out to be flush with the end of the adjustment screw.Had to grind the bit to be narrow enough to fit through the threaded part of the nut,but it saved the screw.

That's a good idea. I'll do that from now on so I don't have to do this but once!

Had a buddy of mine try to help me free the adjusting screw tonight with no luck. Been soaking it the last few nights and did some tapping on it with a hammer. (no, did not mess up the threads) lol Got the part numbers for the o-rings and gasket wrote down so I can order them tomorrow. Is there anything that will fall out when i pull the case apart? And by looking at online parts break down photos and in the honda Manual I really cant tell how taking the case off makes it easy to break the screw loose. Is it easier to get ahold of on the inside?? And going to order the o-ring that goes on the adjuster screw if things get a little wild. Got the fan out of the way and gas tank and went ahead and adjusted the valves while I was at it this evening.

yes with the cover off you can hold the back of the adjuster with youre hand and unscrew the nut . have you tryed to zip the nut off with a inpact gun ? it may just have the ommph to loosen the nut with a quick burst .
