Loss of power/whining noise after running for a while

Need some quick advice here. My 02 rubicon has had a motor rebuilt and new oil pump, etc but lately when it runs for a few hours and is hot on random occasions it will make a whirring noise like somethings slipping not grinding and I lose power when gassing it- mainly only happens in deep sand or mud when I actually need the power. Tried in electric shift and fully auto, same thing happens no matter what gear I'm in. if it cools off for a while it's fine again. From what I've gathered I was told to adjust the clutch but the Rubi is sealed wet clutch Centrrfugal and can't be adjusted just needs to be replaced. I'm about to order every freaking partzilla part they list for the clutch and a puller off amazon as I need this thing fully operational in 7 days - Should I do that or just try the bearing first, etc? Or does that sound more like a tranny problem?

Sounds like your transmission. What weight of oil are you using. My old one would do this when plowing snow at times and it got hot and thinned the oil too much.

Currently using the Shell Rotella T6 5w40 Oil. Seemed a lot worse when running the original Honda oil. Used to grind a lot but when I put in the new oil pump it solved the problem, but after riding it hard for a while sometimes the whirring noise starts to happen. last 2 rides I've been on it didn't happen but I'm about to add a lift and larger tires so figured the clutch was the first place to start. If it's the transmission it's the hondamatic and that would be a huge hit I take it eh?

Figured the clutch since my engine break hasn't worked in a while and it does make a little grind when slowing down, so was going to get all new parts for it hoping it would fix it. if you're pretty sure it's the transmission I'll cancel that order and pull the tranny to take a look.

Pretty sure it's the transmission. The clutch should just slip, no grinding noise. Engine braking uses the one way bearing in the clutch but the transmission as well going to the wheels. The grinding noise is fairly common when engine braking do to being off the throttle and lower oil pressure to the transmission. The transmission needs good oil pressure to hold the pistons to the plates to drive it (or brake). When oil pressure is lower they slip making the grinding noise.

if it is the hondamatic it is a complete tear down. if a bearing is problem it may be fixable but if one or more of the small relief valves blew it is not fixable. do an oil pressure test.....how many hours and miles on unit total and since rebuild?
