Howdy everyone - first post here. Found this site via Google search. I own a Honda VTX 1300c and this forum looks identical to the VTX forum I read.

I am looking at selling my dirt-bike and going with a quad. Most of my friends ride trails and I am looking at a 2006 Foreman 500. It is new from the dealer and I will be out the door for around $6200. It is not the ES model, which I don't really like anyway. A friend of mine has a 350 rancher ES and it is a nice quad, but I don't really like the electric shift. Guess I'm too used to using the foot-shifter.

I know that Honda's are well made and run great, but just thought I would ask for some input. Is this a good deal or should I look for one used? Is the 4x4 worth having?

Thanks for all the input!

Thanks all for the input & prices that you paid!

Grtwhthntr - I have ridden my buddy's ES 350 Rancher & it was nice, but I guess I'm just not used to changing gears with my thumb. I rode 2-stroke dirt-bikes in high-school, have a yz400f & a VTX 1300c. I'm just used to flipping though gears with my left foot - that's all. Was it a wierd transition for you?

harry - looks like some great prices there at southern honda! I'm in Washington state, in the Seattle area, so it would be a bit of a drive for me, but thank-you for the info!

billybaja - the dealers up here have you sign all the paperwork & than they fuel the quad, charge the battery & test run it. They did this when my buddy bought his ES 350 Rancher. I've never asked to "hear" the bike before I buy it, but I can guarantee you that I will. & I'll be listening for the knock that you mentioned.

Thanks again, fellas! I'll keep you posted on what happens. My wife tells me I need to make sure and sell my YZ400F first & than I can buy the quad.

I'm sure I'll be back on here browsing for all the upgrades that I will need & prolly asking questions too.

So I looked at a Yamaha Big Bear 400 4x4 the other day. It was an 07, smaller in power, but had independent rear suspension & diff lock. On the down-side, it did not have the digital speedo read-out.

Guess I'm on the fence now...

Thanks again to all who have chimed in!

You think Washington is bad, should head a little farther north, bought my '06 last June for $9350 + 13% taxes. I only wish Canadian prices were more on par with the US.[/quote]

Doh!!! Okay, I'll shut up now....

I sat on a new Rancher 420 at the dealership today. Thinking that this might be the new toy for me, instead of the Foreman for right now. Besides, if my wife gets into riding, she can have the Rancher & I'll end up getting the Foreman. But if I already have a Foreman than I'd have to buy her a "new" ride. See where this is going?
