Hey,

I was thinking of putting on some LED's, but I'm wondering about the legalities of it.

Does anyone know what is legal to have on a quad such as what colors, how many, and how fast they flash? I'm in Canada, hopefully someone might know the law.

Yeah you're probably right, it's not like I use it for my vehicle on the road.

So my next question is....does anyone by chance know the easiest way to maybe put strobes in my stock headlights? I think that adding external stuff mounted outside would likely get broken/damaged.

Thanks for the input

I just strobed my rubi out with lights i bought at advanced auto parts store here locally. Its a light you insert into the headlight that flashes. It was about 26 dollars. I looked later on ebay and the kit was acually cheaper on ebay. The lights name started with an O, optix or something similar. Mine looks good and im happy with it.

How bright would you say they are?

That's a good idea, I assume you just drill a hole, put it in, and seal it up...

Did you have to get a wigwag or whatever they're called?

No, all you need is the lights it flashes automatically. Very simple flash. Its not too bright, at night you can see it well. I went to autozone and its called Optix made by streetglow. Its with the neon lights. Now im currently replaceing my fog lights, baja, with new blue bulbs. I have to buy a modular control, Optix also, at autozone that will make my fog lamps flash. Im gonna tie all of the lights in together so they will flash together.

Strobes

Hey,

Just got mine on last week and they are bright and fully waterproof. (tested)
I like them so much i started sell them through my business. I can get to all different colors (Amber, Blue, Green, Red, White) special colors take longer to get in. The one i have on my ride are 4 LED surface mount red /red units, they have 18 different flash patterns all built in to unit. $75 each retail I will sell for $60 each. But you have to let me know you were from the fourm.
I also have mounting brackets.

Using red or blue strobes on your bike may get you into trouble. The wardens and cops have them, they may fine you for it. However.....the group of fellas you scare with them may cause you physical harm for making them toss their beers.

I am pretty sure that running flashing red or blue lights on any vehicle in Canada, unless part of emergency services is illegal.

I found this in the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle act:

Red, blue or flashing lights
179 (1) No person shall drive or move on a highway a vehicle with a red light visible from directly in front of the vehicle unless the vehicle is

(a) an ambulance or school bus;

(
a police, fire department or fire patrol vehicle;

© a vehicle being used by the chief or deputy chief of a volunteer fire department when acting in an emergency arising from a fire or an accident; or

(d) a vehicle being used by a conservation officer appointed pursuant to an enactment when the conservation officer is performing duties as a conservation officer.

(1A) In this Section, "fire patrol vehicle" includes a fire suppression or fire vehicle operated by the Department of Natural Resources.

(2) In this Section, "red light" includes a red reflector or other device that gives or is capable of giving the effect of a red light.

(3) No person shall drive or move on a highway a vehicle with a blue light visible in any direction unless the vehicle is a police vehicle or a vehicle being used by a conservation officer appointed pursuant to an enactment when the conservation officer is performing duties as a conservation officer.

(4) In this Section, "blue light" includes a blue reflector or other device that gives or is capable of giving the effect of a blue light

I am sure it is the same all across Canada.

most of that is common sense I think, but I'm pretty sure you can use them off the legal roads.

The key phrase to what was written was no person shall move on a highway. I dont know about you but my quad doesnt see the highway. Or hardly ever see pavement. And i deffinatly am not going to be trying to pull some one over.

Well now that is law to have the bike registered and insured, I would not want to push my luck with that issue.....on road or off. The big point with the whole thing that you may be mistaken for the law and that is an offence in itself. You may cause some silly ******* to tree his machine if he saw you coming with flahing red and blues.....lol
All other colors are ok I bet, but I am not sure in the whole purpose of them in the first place.
