is this the air filter part number that yall used? HA-5000??

has anyone ever tried to use the oil filter that k&n has, part number on that is KN-113??

also when i bought my 4wheeler it had a k&n filter already in it, is this a filter that needs to be oiled...a guy down the road that saw me riding one day said he had to get his top end rebuilt becuz he wasnt told he needed to oil his filter

i have already had my top end rebuilt once since i have had the bike(bought it used), am starting to think that if this filter is suppose to be oiled that it may have caused me to have it rebuilt the first time around and maybe it is making my bike rattle like loose machinery....also when i brought it in to get top end rebuilt the guy said i didnt even have a top ring on my piston at all, so could this have caused me to have to rebuild the top end the first time around and is there a possibility that it is causing it to rattle again?

Ok first...All K&N's need to be cleaned and oiled on a regualer schedule. The oil is what traps the finer dirt. You can get recharge kits at any auto parts stores for around 20 bucks that comes with cleaner and oil. Dont put too much oil on since it will cause it to coat inside of all the chambers and coat the carb.

As for missing a ring...I can say its probably not caused by daily use! I would have to say someone may have forgotten to put one in....

i have a horrible memory so when i here a rattle on a ride im like wtf is making this happen but i dont remember it ever not rattling so its hard for me to pinpoint what is causing it

no sweat dude...it took me a while to find a rattle on my YFZ450 until i found out it was just my front brake lever hitting my bark busters!

your filter will be red when it is oiled and a grayish/white when cleaned. use only k&n oil. also if you don't have a prefilter for it then get one, it'll help get rid of the finer dust that the filter won't get.

i would advise avoiding k&n go with a uni instead. my brother used k&n and it almost destroyed his motor and it gunked up his carb. the k&n will allow too much dust through.

I have used K&N Air filters on everything from my truck, 3-wheeler, dirtbikes and now my foreman. I haven't ever had the problem of letting dust thru. On my off road toys I always run a pre-filter and clean them very often and re-oil the air filter. I've got 3,800 miles on my '05 foreman and 2,000 or more has been with the K&N on with no problems. Now if you over oil the filter, the carb will pull the extra oil thru and gunk it up. Just my 2 cents.

well since ive had the bike the motor has been taken out and crackd the case to clean it out then the top end was bored out and all that goes with that, so since ive dumped that much into it i might as well make sure the filter is doing what its suppose to do...since i havent cleaned it since i got it and the last ride i went on was horrible with the dust it needs to be cleaned i know

you may be on to something. if you over oil than it clogs the carb and if you under oil it will not keep enough dust out.that is why a lot of people have problems with k&n.

Hit the nail on the head rockbottom! Basically too little oil on a K&N will let dust and dirt thru, too much and you'll have to clean your carb (been there) LOL! Another thing to remember with a K&N, even if your air filter is not dirty enough to clean I wouldn't go any more than 3 months without servicing it. The oil will start to dry the longer it sits thus will let more dirt thru.
