Jetting: Opinions Please!

I am in TN, average el. 1000ft. Where we do most of our riding is around 2000-3200ft. I am going on a ride in Evarts Kentucky, Black mountain w/ a high point being el. 4200ft and the town around el. 1800-2000ft.
I run an HMF utility exhaust, K&N air filter, and a 170main jet like the instructions said to, also 2 1/2 turns out on the mix screw.

Here's my promblem. At home my bike runs like a scalded dawg and has a noticable amount of power, but when when we go ride in the mountains (where we always go) it feels like it's back stock again and I can tell it's richer.
Should I try the next jet down, the 165. My stock one was a 162?

Also should I go ahead and put the smaller jet in for the Kentucky ride?

If I put the 165 in, will it hurt me and lean it out too much when i'm at home?

I think my promblem is i'm in the middle of needing both jets, one at home and one when we go riding!

Jet

I live in Henderson Tn(West Tennessee) and I was running a 170 in mine with the HMF and K&N and it was pretty rich. I backed down to a 165 and it seems to have more overall power. All the jet sizes I mentioned are Dynojet.
Thanks! I believe i'm going to do that. I'll just have to spend some time running around the house and checking the plug. I don't have but maybe 100 yards at the house to try and do a plug chop test. Everyone that i've done has been black, but i'm not sure if i'm running it far enough to get a good reading.
?

You need to try and ride it at a certain speed, for a little while, so you can get a good reading. If you ride in that small a spot it may show to be a little rich unless you do it for 10-15 minutes or so.
I would jet 2 sizes smaller then install a dial-a-jet.this is exactly what they are made for.you would be perfect at home and then perfect up to 5500 ft. or so. they are really worth the money when you set them up exactly as they say.I know 3 guys that installed them and they work flawlessly.
I have been reading about these and was wondering if anyone was using them. I may check into it, but it will be a little while before I could get one.
we went to evarts about a month and half ago. i didnt have any problems with my jetting and all. i run fine at home in central ky, and no problems all over black mountain.

are you staying at blackmountainrentals in evarts. we had a blast and found some mud on back side of mountains. DO NOT drink and ride your atv after dark. a friend with us got to spend the night in the harlen county holiday inn (jail). got a dui. have fun.

Joe, what jet are you running? This is gonna be our first time there. We have rented a house in town about 2 minutes from the trail head. Going down thursday night Aug. 18-20th. We don't drink and ride, but when the rides over I like to have a couple cold ones.
