Can you hear a clicking noise sometime if the valves are not adjusted correctly. I atv has 250 miles and a little over 30 hours, so I guess I need to adjust the valves. I also changed over to Amsoil synthetic oil, so I want to understand what the clicking sound is that I hear sometimes at idle.

Thanks

Switching to synthetic oil shouldn't cause it to make any noise but it is thinner than the standard oil most people use. Usually if your valves are out of adjustment it will make a tap-tap-tap sound, Honda recommends you have your valves adjusted after, I believe, the first 100 miles or 10 hours. Hope this helps.
Has your bike had the product update "clutch drive plate" installed ..?.. Or is it in the serial number range ..?
Honda Mechanic, I have no idea. What is the serial number range and I will look.

Thanks
Jon
If you call your honda dealer they can look up your vin and tell you if it needs to be done.
Well, I saw where someone had scanned in their letter, and it appears that mine was not built in the affected range. It was actually an earlier number.

Any ideas now?
Jon
As long as it was a scan from a US list of serial numbers ...

This is the serial number range for Canadian bikes ..

Anyway I didn't want to get off the subject of the noise in your bike .. It could very well be the valves needing to be adjusted .. The reason I asked about the clutch up-date and if your bike was in the serial number range is because we've changed quite a few crankshafts in the TRX500's since the up-date came out .. The problem with the old clutch drive plate is that is gets loose on the crank ,and the bike will have a tick/slight knock at idle .. Then when it comes in for the clutch drive plate up-date you will find the centrifugal clutch will just pull off with your fingers (won't need the puller) ,when this happens it will also need a new crank ..
I just did the valve adjustment, and no problem thanks to the instructions!

Also, does anyone have the serial/VIN range for US bikes. I am scared that my bike has the symptoms!

Thanks
Jon
Hey Honda Mechanic, had a question for you. I have an 05 Foreman 500S 4x4 and I just did the valve adjustment at 100 hours, and at 108 hours and noticed the valves already makeing noise again. It sounded great for about the first 2 hours and started making a little noise and went riding Monday night and i noticed that hotter the engine got the worse the valves started taping, or that what the sounds seems to be. I mean it was real noticeable. Then once I got the engine cooled down some from some water and fast moving to get air acrossed the engine it seemed to not be as loud. Then once it cooled down from the drive home it seemed like the valves where set perfect again. Has there been any other compliants of the 05's or 06's making noise just shortly after being adjusted or from getting hot. Thanks for any info.
