2003 Honda Foreman 450S
Ol' reliable has a hiccup. It's a bone stock 2003 Honda Foreman 450S that my dad uses on the farm. Riding it back home today and it suddenly lost power and had a LOUD tick. Pulled it back home with the tractor, set my timing mark ("T"), and took the valve cover off. The intake valve was dead on at .006 but the exhaust valve was waaaayyy out of spec; I was able to slide both the .023 and .024 (.047) feeler gauges in between the valve and rocker. The nut on the adjuster was tight. Broke it loose, adjusted it to .006, tightened it back up, put it back together. It starts right up but the power is still down and I still hear a metallic tick coming from the right side of the engine. I need some suggestions on what to check next.
