swamprat & coop,

you cant tell a whole lot from a new plug. the plug actually looked allright. definatle not rich.

coop,

i'm not positive but i think a plug will run leaner in the winter and richer in the summer due to temps. thicker air or something. 125 hrs could cover quit some time.
I would leave it where it's at. You might be a tad rich but the carbon is staying burnt off the electrode. From what i have always understood you do not read the electrode or ceramic part of the plug for your final analysis, but it does play a part. The end of the threads on the plug is what you read. You can only get a true reading if you have done the throttle chop test with a new plug.
what is a throttle chop test.

what is a throttle chop test?
I think a throttle chop test is when you install a new sparkplug then immediately take the bike out for a wide-open-throttle run through all gears, then before letting up on the throttle you shut the engine off, coast to a stop and remove the plug for inspection.
when i was young and dumb i used to do that, all the way oppen then shut off the eng, it made a cool flame come out the exhaust and a whole bunch of carbon, i assumed it wasn't good to do taht and stoped once i gained some smarts. i've never heard of doing a test like that, i just ride it how its normaly ridden, and then check it. my .02

You got it! Except you do 1 test at 1/4 throttle, 1 at 1/2 throttle and 1 between 3/4-full throttle. Check plug after each run.
