Ok. SonInhave what appears to be a 2001 honda rancher 350 es. It was running well before winter just would not shift properly. Found out it was not changing. Replaced voltage regulator as it wasn't getting power to the batter but 3 phases had voltage. Long story short. Replaced stator, pulse generator, voltage regulator, spliced a broken wire. Now it charges. Then it developed a leak from the carb. Replaced it with Amazon carb and backfired. Found leaky spark plug. Heli coil repaired it. No more leak. Still backfires. Adjust needle level on diaphragm and had a better running engine at part throttle except for a huge backfire that blew a hole in the muffler where it connects to the exhaust pipe. Removed muffler to get it repaired. No muffler now and I have spark, fuel from carb as it sprays out from spark plug hole when I removed the spark plugh to check for spark. Battery is fully charged. Why won't it start?

To follow up. I did a static compression test and read 90 PSI enough to start but still wouldn't. Found TDC adjusted valves to 0.006 inches. Tried starting it, nothing. Lastly brought my differential pressure tester and tested it at TDC slowly increasing the pressure it never heald pressure got to 50psi and had leaks at the carburetor and exhaust. I'm guessing the valves are dirty and not seating. I replaced the spark plug for a new NGK and it fired right up. It still doesn't run well above idle. I adjusted the needle up and down and doesn't want to accelerate when the clip is lowered (richer) and when higher (leaner). One only backfires at the exhaust the other at both. So, I added sea foam to the gas and just idled it for 30 minutes adding a cap full of sea foam to the carburetor intake and accelerating it. It would actually accelerate and then when it was burned off it would start to stumble and backfire. Will this required a valve job?
